Description:

QUALIFICATION:

1. Master’s Degree in Special Education or Administration from an accredited college or university

2. Valid NH certification

3. At least five years’ experience as a Special Educator or related service

4. Successful supervisory experience

5. Practical experience in curriculum planning and budgeting

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

SUPERVISES: Special Education Building Coordinators, Related Service Providers

JOB GOAL: To provide leadership in the ongoing development, delivery, evaluation and improvement of special education services district wide

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop an effective, district wide program for the delivery of student services across the district and, where appropriate, out-of-district.
  • Plan and organize professional development activities designed to improve teacher efficacy in reading and the delivery of special education services.
  • Advise the district Curriculum Cabinet concerning the strengths and weaknesses of special education programs district wide.
  • Work with the assistant superintendent to review and evaluate test results and other evaluative measures used to determine student performance.
  • Interpret, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning reading and special education to the administration and staff.
  • Work with assistant superintendents, principals, and other administrative staff to develop the general philosophy and goals for the special education instructional programs.
  • Provide leadership in the development of correlated special education programs district wide.
  • Assist in the development of the district budget related to special education.
  • Evaluate the performance of student services staff.
  • Evaluate, in collaboration with building administrators, the performance of Special Education Building Coordinators.
  • Provide leadership in the interviewing, hiring and placement of professional staff for special education programs.
  • Provide special education instructional staff, and administrators with counsel and assistance in determining solutions to difficulties in achieving instructional goals.
  • Provide direction to the student services staff in planning instructional programs related to specialized instruction, assessment, and evaluation of student performance.
  • Produce reports of special education progress for the district, NHDOE and FDOE.
  • Prepare annual project proposals for submission to the Superintendent of Schools and, following approval, to the State Bureau of Special Education.
  • Interpret Special Education programs to the school and community.
  • Inform administration concerning all major developments in special education programs of the district.
  • Inform administration and staff of federal and state legislation and regulations that affect special education programs, personnel or students.
  • Develop policy recommendations for the School Board’s consideration and action.
  • Represent the school system at professional meetings and conferences related to special education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full year

SALARY: To be established by the School Board

EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated annually in accordance with Board and District policies.
