Saint Patrick Catholic School is Hiring a Middle School - Science Teacher (2024-2025) Near Norfolk, VA

Job Title: Middle School, Science Teacher

Department: Faculty

Status: Exempt, Full-Time, 10 month Employee

Effective: February 2, 2024

Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Middle School Science Teacher to nurture and support our students in their personal and academic growth for the 2024-2025 academic year. 

Overview

Founded in 2005, Saint Patrick Catholic School (Norfolk, Virginia) is an independent Catholic school with an enrollment of approximately 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eight. Boasting a vibrant and accomplished team of educators, the school encourages students to develop a growth mindset while creating an educational framework focused on reinforcing six "pillars" of education that support the total formation of each student. Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer meaningful instructional plans and Middle School curriculum that is aligned with the school’s academic and developmental standards
  • Develop students skills and competencies in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, life science and biology; develop students skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems 
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning
  • Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional materials, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed
  • Provide constructive student feedback and grades in accordance with school policy and procedures
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by school procedures
  • Ensure effective communication with students and parents; encourage collaboration and provide regular feedback (both written and in-person) to parents
  • Coordinate with peers, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum
  • Attend regular faculty and department meetings; contribute to teamwork and positive morale 
  • Participate in faith formation experiences
  • Perform other duties as directed by school administration

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a wide range of science subject areas, including general science, earth science, life science, biology and more
  • Experience teaching STEM 
  • Experience with classroom management and working with digital technologies
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop and run
  • Committed to serving as a role model for students

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, science or a related field
  • 2-4 years of teaching experience, preferably in a science department
  • Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (preferred)
