Safety Management Group, LLC is Hiring a Safety Advisor Near Washington, DC

Description

SMG seeks a local Safety Advisor – Construction in the DC Metro Area.

The key function of a Safety Advisor is to put safety at the forefront of their job, prioritize the client’s needs, work well in a team setting, be self-managed, and be flexible when it comes to change and travel. The Associate in this role will work in a construction environment.

This position will support several projects in the DC Metro area. The hybrid role includes fieldwork, office, and work from home. This role is one of five team members, creating a high-energy, collaborative, and diverse work environment. This team will not fall to the status quo; this team is challenged to be innovative and creative.

Overview of Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the safety portion of the pre-bid, pre-construction, and monthly progress meetings
  • Conduct safety leadership training for all management personnel
  • Review contractor project-specific safety plans
  • Create and deliver training to increase industry knowledge, worker participation, and claim reduction
  • Identify performance improvement initiatives
  • Cultivate an engaged and informed safety culture
  • Review risk assessments on high-hazard work activities
  • Ensure all contractors are enrolled in the Rolling OCIP
  • Conduct accident investigations to determine causal factors and a safe plan of action
  • Review the emergency action plan for each active site
  • Conduct a periodic claims analysis
  • Conduct quarterly performance and climate assessments
  • Collaborate with the contractors to reduce and eliminate Potential Serious Incidents and Fatality events
  • Conduct daily site inspections with detailed reports
  • Remain or become connected to the local construction community with association involvement and interaction

Requirements

  • CHST Required - SMG will reimburse the CHST exam costs and annual fees. Successful candidates must pass the CHST exam within 90 days of hire as a condition of employment.
  • Five-plus years of Construction safety experience 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
  • Proficient with technology and Microsoft Office
  • Motivated and self-driven

Physical Demands of the job may include

  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
