Description

The V.P of Underwriting is responsible for directing, planning, and controlling the activities of the Underwriting groups. This includes Personal and Commercial underwriting and supporting functions, including Product.

Participates in strategic planning, policy formulation, budget preparation and problem solving. Provide strategic guidance and direction to the team, ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision and values.

• Strategically manage the Underwriting function with a focus on agent's profit / loss and compliance with our procedures and guidelines.
• Initiates and / or responds to requests for evaluation of policies, practices and actions regarding underwriting Safety's products, underwriting guidelines, target markets, pricing, and reinsurance analysis/coverage.
• Establish operational targets, best practices, and training programs that support service, quality, and efficiency standards. 
• Work with Business Intelligence to identify areas of improvement and opportunities to better service our insureds. 
• Work with the Pricing Committee to maintain a disciplined and adequate pricing program for the pursuit and growth objectives. 
• Works closely with marketing to develop and implement growth opportunities through the use of rates and product offerings. 
• Manages and monitors exposure to risk through relationships with Safety's Risk Committee and reinsurance program. 
• Analyzes operations and develops key performance criteria and standards to monitor and manage employee performance. 
• Work closely with the management team to develop skills of employees as well as to identify key performers and develop them into leaders. 
• Manage workflows to create efficiencies and lower expenses. 
• Monitor and evaluate industry, court and state regulatory developments. 

Qualifications

• 10 years of Underwriting management experience
•  College degree, MBA preferred
•  CPCU preferred
•  In depth knowledge of independent agent marketplace
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with other groups within the organization
