TITLE: Executive Director

CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, exempt

REPORTS TO: Safe Haven Board of Directors

SUPERVISES: Direct supervision: Program Services Supervisor, Administrative Assistant/Volunteer Coordinator, Community Engagement Specialist; Manages a staff of approximately 8 full-time and 9 part-time staff

JOB SUMMARY: The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the financial, program and administrative management of Safe Haven. The ED will lead Safe Haven in making a significant impact in the community through providing shelter and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The ED will develop relationships in the surrounding community to enhance partnerships and increase fundraising. The ED will also be responsible for building relationships with staff to enhance the performance and development of Safe Haven. In addition, the ED will be responsible for implementation and management of policies set by the Board of Directors. To achieve this, the ED will need to be creative and strategic in their planning and management.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Operations/Administration

· Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the domestic violence and sexual assault fields

· Ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of program goals and program-related policies and procedures

· Maintain accurate records to comply with funding source reporting requirements

· Develop and implement strategic plan process. This includes execution that is in alignment with organizational culture and values.

Fiscal:

· Perform account receivable and payable transactions; prepare fiscal reports; manage and prepare payroll

· Prepare the yearly agency budget for Board approval

· Implement, monitor and update the agency and grant budgets throughout the year

· Develop, monitor and revise program budgets

· Allocate resources within budgetary limits and in accordance with agency policy and contractual obligations

· Review and oversee maintenance of financial records. Submit reports to the Board, funding sources, and community organizations as required or appropriate

· Coordinate the annual audit

Community Outreach:

· Provide the agency’s vision, mission, services and needs to the community

· Oversight for community education and professional training on agency services and the issues related to domestic and sexual violence

· Act as the primary spokesperson for the agency with the news media and the community at large

· Provide insight for communications content and delivery consistent with agency mission and vision, in collaboration with the Program Services Supervisor and other staff

Fund Development:

· Cultivate and manage strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective corporate, foundation, and government funding sources

· Oversight of major government grants/proposals, including but not limited to departments of DOJ, HUD, DCF, OCVS and other community grants; includes grant research, writing, monitoring and reporting

· Develop agency fund development plan for Board approval; research, solicit, and develop program and agency operating funds from local, state, and federal grants and from private sources

· Plan and execute fundraising activities and events

· Communicate with and nurture individual, organization, and corporate donors

Staff Supervision/Relations:

· Teach, model and support agency mission, vision, values, and best practices to staff and community partners when needed

· Collaborate in the hiring and evaluation of direct services staff and assist leadership and oversight in planning, directing and scheduling program staff accordingly

· Develop and administer sound personnel practices that ensure the personal and professional growth within Safe Haven to provide the highest quality of services to clients and the community

· Oversight for services and training for all programs, staff and advocate training, and when necessary, delegation to duties for professional development while working to limit vicarious trauma

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

· Minimum of five years of proven leadership skills in previous experience

· Bachelors or Master’s degree

· Demonstrated skills in budgeting, fiscal management, grant writing/oversight, fund raising, donor solicitation and program management and development

· Demonstrated ability in public speaking and community relations

· Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the public providing awareness and education programming

· Demonstrated problem solving skills

· Flexibility to travel as needed including occasional out-of-town and overnight trips

· Ability to work independently and lead a team

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of Safe Haven training program.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Background Check.
  • Must obtain/maintain account with a financial institution for direct deposit of paychecks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
