JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Laborer assists the Mechanics with light maintenance duties. This position requires basic mechanical skills and proficiency in the use of hand tools. The Maintenance Laborer must be comfortable working in and around a maintenance shop and conducting light maintenance tasks throughout the facility, yard, and office areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist Mechanics: Support Mechanics in performing light maintenance tasks. This may involve assisting with inspections, repairs, lubrication, or other basic maintenance duties under their guidance.
  2. Basic Mechanical Ability: Possess a basic understanding of mechanical principles and the ability to work in and around the maintenance shop. This includes familiarity with common tools, equipment, and safety practices.
  3. Facility Maintenance: Perform light maintenance tasks around the facility, including the yard and office areas.
  4. Versatility and Adaptability: Be willing to handle a variety of duties that can range from requiring some skill to routine maintenance and upkeep. Work on different tasks as assigned.
  5. Proficient Use of Hand Tools: Demonstrate proficiency in using a variety of hand tools commonly used for maintenance tasks. This includes properly selecting, handling, and maintaining tools for efficient and safe operation.
  6. Safety Awareness: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
  7. Equipment Assistance: Aid mechanics when needed, such as retrieving tools, organizing materials, or supporting tasks related to equipment repairs or maintenance.
  8. Learning and Training: Actively participate in Safety Training Programs and on-the-job learning opportunities.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting and general upkeep duties around the facility.
  2. Perform facility maintenance duties such as mowing, cutting, trimming, and spraying trees, grass, shrubs, and other vegetation. Also perform duties such as shoveling of snow, dirt, and gravel.
  3. Assist in inventory management and upkeep.
  4. Collaborate effectively with Mechanics and other team members to accomplish maintenance tasks and ensure smooth operations.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

  • One to two years of related experience.

  • Valid state motor vehicle operator’s license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSLifting Options

  • Must be able to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy objects.

  • Able to complete physically demanding work.
  • Good hand-eye-foot coordination and sense of balance.
  • Able to kneel, crouch, or crawl in awkward spaces to repair equipment.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Prolonged periods standing.
  • Prolonged periods walking.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Must be able to work on components that are vertical, flat, or overhead. 

Visual & Audio Options

  • Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment for eye/ear.

Dexterity & Acuity Options

  • Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of hand tools
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.

Weather Related Options

  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with the plant.
  • May work in a variety of weather including extreme heat and cold.
