Salary Range: $82,000.00 - $164,000.00 Salary/year

Description

Position Purpose: The Multi-Subject Learning Specialist, in collaboration with the Assistant Principal of Academic life and the learning services team (K-8), is responsible to ensure high-quality services are provided to all students.

Specific Expectations for P-8 Employees: In addition to regular teaching responsibilities (including but not limited to preparing curriculum and grade reporting, class prep, student reporting – report card narratives, parent-teacher conferences, supervision duties, classroom substitution, advisory, elective teaching, office hours, outdoor education/field trips, etc.), the following duties and responsibilities are required as part of the P-8 faculty/staff workload:

Responsibilities beyond the boundaries of teaching assignments that foster a growth mindset in order to continually improve our P-8 program such as professional development and trainings, attendance of or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (Director’s Days, Open Houses, accreditation meetings, etc.) are required as directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

Essential Functions

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of processes for supporting students needing accommodations by reviewing outside testing reports, identifying strategies to meet the needs of evaluated students, planning for and communicating with teachers regarding implementation of student accommodations and differentiated lesson planning
  • Systematically check in with teachers on how lesson plans are being differentiated, and accommodations are being implemented, to ensure for consistency and fidelity across grade levels
  • Oversee student transitions between grade levels, including the collaboration on class lists, development of transition plans and the coordination of services and supports
  • Collaborate with Point of Contact teachers to analyze and interpret benchmark data related to student performance to inform decision-making and improve outcomes:
    • STAR, F&P, ERB Milestone, and curriculum based measures 
  • Collaborate closely with the school counselor(s)
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff and the parent community to enhance their skills and knowledge related to educational services
  • Collaborate with the Director of OMCS in partnership to ensure that all students are supported in an equitable manner
  • Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to ensure screening processes are appropriately identifying factors that affect student levels of performance
  • Actively participate in a collaborative employee culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of P-8 education

Case Management

  • Ensure that SHS has a robust case management system for supporting students that is both age-appropriate as well as cohesive across multiple divisions, including student life and counseling
  • Facilitate and document ongoing communication with families, teachers, and administrators to discuss accommodations, recommendations, supports, and student progress
  • Facilitate Student Study Team (SST) meetings as student concerns grow to require tier 2 or 3 support/intervention
  • Conduct student observations to inform follow-up with teachers and families

Campus Leadership

  • Facilitate the Student Support Team, which currently includes the Principal, Assistant Principal(s), Director of OMCS, LS Learning Support Specialists, the School Counselor(s), to provide opportunities for team members to grow, develop, and feel supported and nurtured, while ensuring that the whole child is supported
  • Educate faculty, including specialist teachers and administrators, about supporting neurodiverse students, and serve as both a resource and faculty trainer
  • Work with teachers to effectively enable students to use diverse learning strategies in the classroom
  • Meet regularly with Directors and Division Heads on a regular cadence to ensure student learning is progressing and families feel supported

Required Qualifications

  • Equivalent to the completion of a Master of Arts (MA) or higher degree in special education, educational administration, counseling and guidance, or closely related field
  • 3-5 years of successful experience in a responsible administrative position performing student support services and/or related functions; and a minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, counselor, school nurse or other related certificated position
  • Ability to both envision and communicate a compelling strategic vision and to execute the essential functions of the position
  • Ability to balance dynamic relationships with families and outside professionals
  • Demonstrated experience effectively forming and leading teams of colleagues as a coach, mentor, director or similar role
  • Demonstrated skill in designing and executing on systems for case management
  • A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with instructional technology tools including interactive whiteboards, iPads, Chrome Books and typical classroom instructional and management applications
  • Proficiency communicating with varied constituents around complex topics while effectively balancing candor and warmth
  • Desire and ability to work in a collegial, highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an enthusiastic member of the SHS community
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English; additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality

  • Experience working in an independent school environment
  • Experience from the network of Sacred Heart Schools

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Works in an environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel safely and comfortably across the 64 acre campus.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
