The Teaching Fellows will assist student classes for 15-20 students per session using assisting teachers who are following the SSP curriculum. The classes consist of English Language Arts, Math, Social Emotional Learning and Study Hall.
The TF’s will be responsible for following the material and assisting the teacher and students. Duties may also include, grading and providing feedback for students, working with the director. In addition to assisting in class, there will be weekly team meetings and 1-2 training sessions outside of the regularly scheduled program time.
The teaching fellows will report to the Director of the Sophie’s Scholars Program.
Key Requirements
Must maintain a minimum GPA of a 3.33
Proven excellence as a Volunteer Teaching Fellow
One full-time summer Volunteer Teaching Fellow experience
Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.
Effective student group management skills that incorporate growth mindset and positive behavioral interactions with students.
Ability to support students and families in a respectful, inclusive, and engaging way.
Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a highly developed understanding of youth development skills.
Collaborative classroom practices are imperative to the success of Peninsula Bridge as we often incorporate outside visitors, volunteers, etc.
Effective organization skills, attention to detail.
Fluency in Spanish desired but not required.
Ability to operate and teach Google Chromebook Apps for access to curriculum, student reports, collaborative work with students and team members.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Must comply with all state vaccination requirements and show proof of vaccination including but not limited to COVID-19 or proof of eligibility for exemption.
Ability to comfortably and safely move about the classroom and over the 64-acre campus.
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area.
Work Hours: 7:30 AM - 1:30 PM, M-F June 10- July 15 (July 4th off)
