Job Title: Graphic Design Intern
Department: Marketing & Communications
Reports To: Marketing & Brand Specialist
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time, Seasonal
Schedule: Tuesday – Thursday, 12 – 20 hours per week
Hiring Range: $18 - $23 per hour

General Summary:
The Sacramento SPCA Marketing & Communications Team is looking for a creative and team-oriented individual to contribute graphic design support during the summer. The Graphic Design Intern will work directly with the Marketing & Brand Specialist to play an important role in designing and branding promotional and educational projects that impact multiple local communities connected with the Sacramento SPCA.
Essential Job Functions:
· Design and create or edit promotional and educational materials for print and web mediums using Apple computer systems equipped with the Creative Suite.
· Create marketing emails for scheduled newsletters and event communications.
· Organize photo library utilized by multiple Sacramento SPCA departments.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
· Must be punctual and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
· Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
· Assist other departments/staff with special events, community events as needed.
· Assist with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of Canva and its collaboration tools
· Experience with Adobe Creative Suite programs preferred
· Must be able to work in a team and have the ability to professionally receive feedback on projects
· Experience with the principles of graphic design, color, typography, layout, and print & web production techniques preferred
· Experience with website content management systems like Drupal or WordPress a plus
· Experience with domestic animal care and handling a plus
· Knowledge of email marketing platforms like Mailchimp preferred
· Knowledge of Dropbox preferred
Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma
· Currently possess a degree or enrolled in a program working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities, vehicles or equipment, may be a disqualification.
Working Conditions:
· By nature of the industry, there may be occasional exposure to dead, injured, sick, unruly, vicious, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and to infectious diseases.
· This is a collaborative position that will share an office with the Marketing & Brand Specialist for the duration of the internship.
