OVERVIEW: The Health Services Coordinator is responsible for the administration and daily operation of the Health Services department. The Health Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supervising and monitoring physical health care for residents of the Sacramento Children’s Home (SCH), overseeing the delivery of medication for residents, as well as the communication and assessment of health/medical needs of the children and ensuring the residents receive the highest quality of care. This position comes in contact with confidential information, and as such, must maintain the program and agency’s standard of strict confidentiality.

DUTIES:

  • Resident Health Care Oversight and Coordination
  • Triage sick or injured children and ensure they receive appropriate medical care.
  • Act as liaison between residential staff, clinical staff, and management as well as medical and psychiatric providers.
  • Organize and participate in Pediatric Clinic and Psychiatric Clinics.
  • Code contracted physicians invoiced for the accounting department.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with physicians.
  • Communicate all health care needs to appropriate staff.
  • Communicate any medication changes to appropriate SCH staff, County Worker and/or County Psych Med Coordinator.
  • Research resident’s health/medical histories.
  • Expedite records and reports for court, hospitals, and medical and mental health providers following HIPPA guidelines.
  • Handle health insurance issues as necessary.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians of residents regarding health issues.
  • Medication management for the program ensuring physician’s orders are followed by continuous communication with pharmacy, prescribers and staff.
  • Process prescribed medications with cottage staff weekly assuring accuracy of the prescription and medication count
  • Take lead and/or assist in dealing with pandemic protocols including care of residents, structure of daily care, use of PPE, testing of residents/staff and coordination with all residential staff, labs, doctors, Public Health (PH), and Community Care Licensing (CCL).
  • Tour entities such as CCL, PH, and the Juvenile Justice Commission to show and explain our medication/medical processes.
  • Prepare discharge packet for each resident and provide medication and/or prescriptions at the time of each resident’s discharge.
  • Maintain Medical Department Progress Note entries up to date for each resident’s medical files.
  • Review physician’s orders on a monthly basis and make new medication administration records each calendar month for all residents.
  • Monitor medication administration records on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversee medical and pharmaceutical billing, complete documentation and contact insurance company, prescribers, pharmacies and the accounting department.
  • Assist psychiatrist with monthly electronic record keeping and data entry into Avatar mental health chart.
  • Provide instruction/training to residents on health/medical issues.
  • Provide instruction/training to staff on health/medical issues related to the residents.
  • Conduct Medication Administration Training for all new residential staff based on Community Care Licensing regulations
  • Conduct Medication Refresher trainings to all residential staff at least twice annually.
  • Monitor the department budget and expenditures.
  • Purchase all medical supplies including vaccines.
  • Oversee storage and disposal of contaminated sharps, biohazard waste, and medication destruction
  • Maintain compliance with Community Care Licensing (CCL), Council on Accreditation (COA), Mental Health contracts, and federal and agency regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: 2750 Sutterville Rd. Sacramento, CA 95820

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

SALARY: $22.50 - $25.31 per hour, to start

QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience:

  • Technical certification as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a medical office as a Medical Assistant is required.
  • One year of prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with pediatric health issues and psychotropic medication is preferred.

Driving is an essential function of this job. As such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is also required. Must be at least 21 years old.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use medical equipment (i.e. stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, etc.).
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications and mental disorders.
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent development.
  • Knowledge of child abuse issues.
  • Knowledge of substance abuse issues.
  • Ability to relate to children and families in a positive manner.
  • Ability to facilitate trainings.
  • Excellent basic medical nursing skills.
  • Knowledge of Title 22 and CACFS regulations.
  • Knowledge of community resources that serve children’s health needs (i.e., California Children’s Services, California Health and Disability Prevention Program, Immunization Assistance, Court Investigations, CPS, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Skill to maintain a professional, confidential work environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time in an efficient manner.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
