The Cost Engineer works directly with Estimators and prospective clients on the creation of detailed bid packages.

Responsibilities

  • Must demonstrate and model Sachse Construction’s core values.
  • Lead and/or assist on bids up to $500K
  • Reviews plans for consistency and accuracy
  • Develops bid lists
  • Manages take offs and apply unit prices
  • Understands typical scopes (writing scopes and level bids)
  • Understanding of construction process
  • Manages pre-bid RFI process
  • Levels/scopes trades (finishes and specialties) as part of a bid team on a larger project for GC/CM
  • Understanding of unit prices
  • Maintains current unit price and historical database
  • Develops subcontractor/vendor relationships
  • Provides coverage in the Call Center when needed and manages coverage on projects

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the construction industry (internship experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or Architecture
  • Resourcefulness and ability to track down information quickly and accurately
  • Ability to learn quickly and prepare estimates in the proprietary format
  • Maintains high level of professionalism at all levels
  • Cost management skills
  • Excellent written/oral communication and presentation skills
  • Commitment to detail and strong sense of urgency
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Must be well organized and possess problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude and a good sense of humor
  • Negotiation experience and skills
  • Ability to work in a high energy, fast paced team environment
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
