This position will work 14hrs/wk. Tuesday 12p-6p, Friday 8:00a-5p

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess patient’s lactation needs by obtaining a maternal and fetal history, assess any social and/or familiar influences that can affect breastfeeding.
• Analyze and document all maternal and fetal factors in developing an individualized plan of care.
• Communicate and document the plan of care all pertinent data to other members of the health care team to provide coordinated patient care.
• Keep accurate medical records and update nursing care and or OB Providers when conditions, needs, or goals of the patient change.
• Provide patients with lactation evidence-based instructional materials, care, education, and resources regarding breastfeeding.
• Teach lactation instructions to perinatal team to ensure proper techniques, feeding cues, etc. are utilized for breastfeeding.
• Lead breastfeeding support group for patients.
• Lead health education support groups and provide individual health education support to high-risk perinatal patients experiencing chronic diseases.
• Assist patients with breast milk pumping, pump usage, management of breast milk collection, storage, and obtaining breast pumps for home use.
• Help patients achieve an exclusive breastfeeding plan through collaboration and coordination with physicians, nurses, all health care members, the patient, family, and appropriate community resources.
• Document all contacts made and plan for continuing breastfeeding needs.
• Remain current in advances in lactation practices and implications for patient care.
• Refer patients and families to appropriate community resources.

Position Requirements:

• Experience in breast-feeding education and postpartum mother-baby education.
• Knowledge of Standards of Care pertinent to breast-feeding education.
• Skilled at providing small and large group presentations.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (usually four years) in education
• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
• Must be International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
• CPSP certification and a working knowledge of the CPSP program.
• Certified in Centering Pregnancy by the Centering Healthcare Institute preferred.
• Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred.
• Covid-19 vaccination required as a condition of employment as required by State law. Medical and religious exemptions may apply.
