Senior Mechanical/Civil Engineer

With a strong focus on technical excellence, collaboration and client satisfaction, S&ME is seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical/Civil Engineer with horizontal directional drilling experience to join our team in our Charlotte, Raleigh or Columbia, SC offices.

What You Will Do:

As a Senior Mechanical/Civil Engineer (Pipeline and Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Design Services Team Leader) you will drive our pipeline and HDD design services from a regional or company-wide perspective based on qualifications. You will have a strong understanding of the pipeline engineering design work process, design of pipe and appurtenances, design of distribution and transmission pipelines, design of horizontal directional drills and conventional borings, oversight of HDD and bore inspection services, plan and construction documents and drawing preparation, associated non-environmental permitting (DOT encroachments, railroad encroachments, etc.), and design practices with construction feasibility in mind. You are a technically sound, self-motivated, embraces teamwork, and has the desire to grow and develop professionally. You will also be a technical resource to other S&ME Oil & Gas professionals.

The Senior Mechanical/Civil Engineer position will involve:

  • Collaboration with the design team and permitting teams, assisting with proposal and cost estimate development, project or task management and marketing S&ME's services with emphasis in the Oil & Gas (O&G) segment of our Energy Market Sector. Coordination with our O&G Practice Leader to develop and implement a programmatic strategy to drive the growth of pipeline and HDD design services.
  • Project responsibility will be primarily focused on routing, site selection, pipeline and HDD design for distribution and transmission pipelines as well as other projects which may require design, engineering, permitting, construction, and operations support. Serve as Champion and/or Project Manager for strategic and/or critical projects or programs, as required.
  • Develop new relationships within areas such as modeling, renewable natural gas, fluid dynamics, facility design and other utilities.

S&ME currently has well-established and long-term relationships with several large O&G clients in the Southeast as well as Mid-Atlantic and Midwest, currently providing pipeline and HDD design services as well as associated environmental and other permitting and inspection services for these clients. You would help us grow services currently offered to existing clients as well as look to establish new relationships with additional clients or additional market sectors (such as water, sewer, fiber, etc.) within our footprint.

Who You Are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering, or related field
  • You have a Professional Engineering License (P.E.)
  • You have 8 years of pipeline and HDD design experience
  • You have project management experience
  • You have the ability to develop and mentor staff
  • You have the ability to perform limited travel to foster in-person interactions with clients and team members as well as meet project needs
  • You can demonstrate client development, project management and team management success, a plus
  • You have experience with preparation of proposals and statements of qualification, a plus
