S&C Electric Company is Hiring an Electrical Designer Near Chicago, IL

JOB SUMMARY

S&C is a global provider of equipment and services for electric power systems. Founded in 1911, the Chicago-based company designs and manufactures switching and protection products for electric power transmission and distribution. S&C's Custom Engineering organization designs Engineer-To-Order solutions for a portfolio of products including Remote Supervisory and Source-Transfer Vista, Remote Supervisory and Source-Transfer Pad-Mounted Gear, and Metal-Enclosed Switchgear for a wide range of customers including electric utilities and industrial/commercial power users. In this job, you will report to the Manager - Custom Engineering.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Designing switchgear control systems and metering circuits to meet specific customer application requirements using S&C automation products
  • Designing panel layouts, wire harness and cable assemblies, and generating Bills of Material
  • Specifying low voltage electrical components including relays, RTUs, communication devices, and instrument transformers.
  • Defining requirements and writing custom instructions for production testing of control circuits
  • Generating supplementary instruction sheets that describe the operation of control circuitry
  • Participating in cross-functional design teams to ensure customer needs are satisfied through high quality product designs that are delivered in a timely manner
  • Providing engineering support to a team of mechanical and electrical designers and to act as a technical resource for problem solving activities in both design and production processes

To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • Experience in design and drafting of electrical schematics and interconnection diagrams for low voltage control circuits
  • Proficiency in the use of CAD systems, preferably Zuken, MicroStation, SolidEdge, or AutoCAD
  • Experience in, or working knowledge of, medium voltage switching and protection products and systems is not required but is a plus
  • Must be self-motivated, well organized, and skilled decision maker that is comfortable in a fast-paced design and manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical abilities with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Outstanding problem solving skills

  • Walking: Occasional walking throughout the facility
  • Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects

  • Bending: Occasional bending during access to equipment
  • Reaching: Infrequent reaching
  • Handling: Occasional handling of parts or tools
  • Environment: Standard office / lab work space
