Summary:

The Cost Accountant is responsible for managing the accounts of various construction projects by overseeing subcontractor and supplier contracts and invoicing, confirming the accuracy of coding and expenses related to payroll and equipment costs and tracking of owner billings. This individual will act as the liaison between the accounting group and the project controls and operations teams for all financial matters. In this role, the individual will also assure that internal control policies and procedures are being properly maintained at the project level.

Essential Duties:

• Confirms that all costs and billings are properly recorded for the preparation of profit and loss statements and other accounting reports.
• Confirms accuracy of coding of costs within their projects for weekly labor and equipment postings.
• Confirms accuracy of coding of costs for all vendor and subcontractor invoices within their projects.
• Assists with preparation of change order requests and monthly billings.
• Assists with compliance reviews of all subcontracts and purchase orders and related billings
• Maintains awareness of accounting best practices for internal and cost control procedures.
• Assists team in other ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as necessary.
• Prepares or assists in the preparation of all project finances for internal/external auditing and tax purposes.
• Performs Cost in Excess / Billing in Excess analysis
• Prepare Time and Material Billings.
• Other support as required

Requirements:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 year's construction accounting experience. Experience in heavy/civil construction a plus.
• Excellent knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures.
• Familiarity with Vista (Viewpoint) accounting software a plus.
• Solid analytical and mathematical skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with field and corporate office personnel.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
