RWJBarnabas Health is Hiring a Registered Nurse (FT Day) - Children's Kidney Center - West Orange, NJ Near WEST ORANGE, NJ

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse assists the physician, practice manager, and nurse practitioner in various aspects of the medical treatment and testing in accordance with their practice. The RN maintains exam rooms and equipment and keeps an orderly flow of patients to be seen by the physicians. Functions include being part of the patient care team in efforts to achieve goals established for both the individual patient and the clinical service. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors.

Job Requirements:

  • Participates in clinical trials for Pediatric Nephrology through collaboration on study set-up, coordination, IRB process, data collection and administration of research.
  • Participates in the care and treatment of children with all levels of renal failure. Identifies the need for nursing intervention through multidisciplinary ESRD rounds.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of instructional and nursing practice policies as they affect the delivery of services to children with renal failure and their families.
  • Performs follow-up assessment and care planning for discharged patients in a clinic setting in order to identify additional nursing needs.
  • Provides for continuity of care through collaboration and coordination of services with inpatient/outpatient health care teams.
  • Works closely with the pre-transplant coordinator to prepare patients/families for renal transplant including exploration and planning for living donation. Responsible for tissue-typing, patient/family education, coordination of family meeting pre-admission and transplantation and follow up.
  • Receives and handles phone calls as directed by physician.
  • Administers immunizations, injections as directed by physician.
  • Assists with the physician with patients including preparing patients and the examination rooms, taking initial medical history for the chart, taking vital signs, making lab and x-ray appointments, and explaining the preparations to the patients and documenting the same.
  • Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids the physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Handles all prescription refills and call-ins to pharmacies and patients.
  • Maintains and keeps examination rooms and treatment areas clean, including washes and dries instruments used, and prepares sterilization as required. Keeps examination rooms properly stocked with supplies.
  • Maintains lab book and record of OSHA related logs.
  • Maintains medical inventories according to established par levels, orders supplies, checks deliveries for accuracy, reconciles discrepancies, reviews bills for accuracy, submits bills to Practice Manager or Assistant Office Manager.
  • Other duties may consist of notifying patients of lab results, administering injectable medications prescribed by the physician; in house lab work and specimens and forwards to appropriate lab for processing.
  • Provides general nursing care to patients. Handles medical problems, treatments and diagnoses, and follows medical direction given by the physician.
  • Provides general issues to practice manager and operations issues to Director of Operations.
  • Receives and handles phone calls as directed by physician.

Job Qualifications:

  • BA/BS/BSN degree, preferred
  • Current NJ Licensure, National Certification preferred; CCU certification
  • BLS required
  • Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school, preferred
  • Additional experience required based on specific practice needs
  • Minimum one-year pain management experience
  • One to three years medical surgical nursing; six months to one-year office experience
