Job Overview:

The EKG Technician performs non-invasive cardiac testing inclusive of ECG, Holter monitoring and assistance with stress testing; provides physicians with data for use in diagnosing cardiac abnormalities; participates in unit quality improvement. Uses an understanding of principles of growth and development to determine each patient s age specific needs and provides age-specific treatment.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School diploma or equiv
• BLS through American Heart Association
• Six-month probationary training period under the guidance of a qualified preceptor

Preferred:

• Previous experience in an acute care setting

Scheduling Requirements:

• Evening Shift
• Per Diem
• Scheduling may vary based on the needs of the department
• Weekend/Holiday coverage required

Essential Functions:

• Assists physicians with on-site and remote editing of EKGs as needed
• Charging: demonstrates competency by accurately charging patient for procedures performed
• Communicates Reading Panel schedule to offices; notifies physicians of as needed
• Communication: demonstrates competency by transmitting pertinent patient information to appropriate individual (i.e., MD, supervisor, nurse, discharge planner, etc.)
• Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines
• Critical Tests and Results: demonstrates competency by communicating results to RN and Physician
• Cross trains to assist in Cardiac Rehab
• Processes EKG after order and demographic verification
• Obtains 12-lead EKG
• Holter monitor: Applies and removes Holter monitor; cleans equipment
• Monitors CIS for orders
• Monitors voice mail and CIS on weekends and communicate with on-call staff
• Patient Education: demonstrates competency by providing patient/family education regarding test being performed
• Obtains 3-lead rhythm strip
