Description/Job Summary

Wage is $16.20 Per Hour Plus Benefits. The Cook I works under the direction of the Messhall Management team and/or Chief Cook(s). Performs a wide variety of simple grilling and prep cook tasks under general supervision. Can perform more complex cooking duties under direct supervision. 

Responsibilities/Duties

Prepares and cooks food that may require short preparation time.

May prepare food and serve customers at a grill station.

Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food requested by customer and prepares and cooks food according to instructions.

Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments.

Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use.

Tastes products, reads menus, estimates food requirements, checks production, and keeps records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment.

Clean and sanitize workstation and equipment. Complies with all company safety policies and procedures.

Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.

May produce some batch goods using basic cooking techniques.

Always provides the highest quality of service to customers.

Required Skills

Successful completion of high school, vocational school or equivalent.

Required Experience

Six months to one year of food service-related experience in a restaurant, cafeteria or comparable food service establishment.
