Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is Hiring a High School Humanities Teacher Near Ann Arbor, MI

Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is seeking a High School Humanities Teacher for the 2023-2024 School Year to join our strong humanities program that includes two and a half fulltime teachers as well as a number of outside specialists. A full-time teacher at the High School is responsible for teaching a number of Main Lesson classes throughout the year as well as afternoon subject lesson classes. Chaperoning of school events, including both large and small field trips, involvement in student clubs or sports, and participation in one or more school committees is also expected. Our school is looking for a teacher who values authentic relationships, collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work.

As a community, we continue to hold the question of how to best meet the children of today through a pedagogy that upholds the dignity of each human being, and what we must reimagine to do so. It is important to us that our teachers feel supported through mentoring, interactions with one another, and by our healthy and supportive administrative staff. We are currently working to re-envision how to support class teachers through their schedules, time to collaborate and various other supports, because we acknowledge how demanding the job is and the vital role of colleagues.

Our school is made up of dedicated faculty and staff serving our early childhood through twelfth grade families. We support our students and teachers through a strong curriculum, schedules, festivals, and school-wide collaboration. We offer both Spanish and German as World Languages from first to twelfth grade, a growing Eurythmy program, strong fine and practical arts, choral and instrumental music, a developing student support program, and movement classes throughout the school. We celebrate a wide mix of traditional Waldorf Festivals and World Cultural and Religious Festivals including Diwali, Lunar New Year, Rosh Hashanah, and Eid. The faculty engages in study and work together by level and across the whole school. We have a strong and active College, and over the past year we have worked with Alma Partners to develop all of our capacities in diversity, equity and inclusion work.

The Lower School Campus is on 12 wooded and grassy acres, housing our Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grades and currently enrolls nearly 220 students. Our High School campus is a short drive away, with an average of 18-28 students per grade. Both campuses have natural areas, sports facilities, gardens and meeting and work areas for faculty and staff. More about our school can be found at https://www.steinerschool.org/

Outside of our campus, the extended Ann Arbor area offers the richness and diversity of a university town with a small-town feel. Our school is close to Anthroposophical Society, a biodynamic farm, and an Anthroposophical Health center. We are a forty-minute drive from the culture of Detroit, and Michigan’s watersheds/Great Lakes offer wonderful places to visit for field trips and vacation.

Compensation
We offer an equitable salary structure, with a range from $41,000 to $60,000. Our benefits package includes health insurance, base and matching 503b contributions, life/disability insurance and tuition remission. For candidates moving to Ann Arbor, we offer some relocation support.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher), have teaching experience and hold a Waldorf training certificate. Candidates that are committed to becoming a Waldorf teacher and have relevant experience will also be considered. We are committed to having a diverse and inclusive community and encourage candidates from traditionally underrepresented communities to apply.
Interested applicants should submit a resume, 3 references and a short biographical sketch or cover letter to Heather Lomason at hlomason@steinerschool.org.
If you have any questions, please contact Heather Lomason, High School Pedagogical Coordinator at hlomason@steinerschool.org.
