The Office of Risk Management (ORM) supports the implementation of programs, policies, and practices to manage RSM US risk. The CQRM Independence Director assists with managing risk to the firm and its personnel regarding independence requirements of regulatory bodies including the Securities Exchange Commission, Public Accounting Oversight Board and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The position is a key member of the National Office of Independence, Compliance & Ethics with responsibilities for managing compliance with independence policies, including policy development, engagement specific independence consultations and issue resolutions, performing acquisition due diligence and analysis, training development and delivery, monitoring regulatory updates, developing guidance, personal independence considerations, and developing and documenting systems and processes supporting the preceding. Relocation is not required. It is expected that the preceding list of responsibilities will be further refined based upon the candidate's experience and expertise.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Performance of and support for client engagement and personal independence consultations and related issue resolutions
  • Assisting to develop and document systems and processes supporting the independence function as they relate to consulting services
  • Working with National Office of Independence and other enterprise-wide personnel on independence related matters
  • Managing firm acquisition due diligence for consulting processes as they relate to independence matters
  • Monitoring regulatory updates and current events, participate in industry and peer group knowledge sharing programs
  • Assisting with development and presentation of independence related guidance, tools, and training specific to the consulting services lines
  • Mentoring of professional staff and other general management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

(MUST NOTE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED)

  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Advanced business degree (preferred)
  • Active CPA license (preferred)

TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS

(ALL ARE REQUIRED)

  • Extensive knowledge of SEC, PCAOB and AICPA Independence rules and ability to analyze and communicate the potential impact of changes to firm policies, processes and personnel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, comfortable in all settings, can both teach and present
  • Can clearly explain complex topics and issues in broadly understandable terms
  • Comfortable with dealing with ambiguity
  • Ability / willingness to make decisions after appropriate consultation, accept responsibility / consequences
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills
  • Communicates information clearly and concisely, in writing to diverse audiences across the firm and to outside professional contacts

EXPERIENCE

(REQUIRED)

  • 8 years' experience in public accounting (required), with substantive experience in the independence function of a public accounting firm

Compensation Range: $100,000 - $171,100

Individualsselected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
