Job Title: Intern - Rocky Flats Operations

Location(s): Westminster, CO

Status: Temporary – 90 days or less

Anticipated Start date: May 20, 2024

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $15 - $16/hr.

This Internship will support the Rocky Flats Operations Personnel in performance of Field Activities. This position will support ground-water, surface water, ecological, and operations and maintenance personnel.

This position is expected to be in the field 50% or more of the time.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

• Support various groups with their daily functions as necessary, including ground-water, surface water, ecological, and operations and maintenance personnel.
• Collecting various samples.
• Performing corrective and preventive maintenance including but not limited to erosion control repairs.
• Technical report writing and documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

• Good organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Prior experience working outdoors such as construction or outdoor lab experience for college environmental courses.
• Experience driving off road vehicles.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

• Valid driver’s license.
• Microsoft office including but not limited to Excel and Word

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

• Basic knowledge of chemistry.
• Experience with PVC piping and solar systems.
• Experience with use of hand and power tools.
• Experience making minor repairs and installation of pumps.

Minimum Required Education and Years of Experience:

• Completion of 60 credit hours prior to start of internship towards an ungraduated degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or another related STEM field.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills. Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field. The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
