Position Summary

The SummerWorks Assistant Director position involves working closely with the SummerWorks Director to organize, execute, and keep camp programs running smoothly. This position requires a high-level of creative thought, initiative, organization, attention to detail, and most importantly, effective communication. The SummerWorks Director, the Extended Day and Winter Sports Director, Assistant Director, and Office Assistant make up the SummerWorks administrative team, working collaboratively to ensure that campers are safe, having fun, and growing!

Responsibilities

  • Program Development: Collaborate with the SummerWorks Director to plan and develop camp programs, activities, and events that align with SummerWorks’s mission and cater to the interests and needs of campers.

  • Staffing: Assist in training and supervising camp staff, including counselors, activity specialists, and support staff. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to ensure staff are prepared to deliver high-quality programming and support the overall camp experience.

  • Administrative Tasks: Support the Director in managing camper enrollment and registration, planning events and field trips, and managing weekly schedules.

  • Communication: Serve as a point of contact for campers, parents/caregivers, staff, and community partners, providing information, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner. Maintain open lines of communication to ensure everyone is informed and engaged in the SummerWorks community.

  • Emergency Protocols: Support the Director in managing any emergency situations that may occur at camp. This may include helping campers and counselors, communicating with families, grabbing any emergency supplies, or calling emergency responders if necessary.

  • Evaluation & Improvement: Contribute to the evaluation and assessment of camp programs and operations, gathering feedback from campers, staff, and stakeholders. Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance the overall camp experience.

  • Role Modeling: Lead by example and serve as a positive role model for campers and staff, embodying the values and principles of the camp. Foster a culture of respect, teamwork, inclusivity, and personal growth throughout the SummerWorks Community.

  • Flexible, caring, enthusiastic disposition
  • Good cheer, humor, and warmth, balanced with professionalism and maturity
  • Prior work or experience with children ages three to fourteen.
  • Ability to supervise large groups of children on a daily basis
  • An openness to making mistakes and trying new things
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to deal with emergencies

Additional Information

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. SummerWorks has mandatory paid staff training on June 9 & 10, 2023. Our Camp season begins on Monday, June 12, 2023, and ends on Friday, August 4, 2024. There will be no camp on June 19, July 3, July 4, and July 24. Free parking close to U of U, and an excellent opportunity to work with children.
