Virtual Content Specialist

Purpose:

The Virtual Content Specialist provides a framework and aligns the course catalog development process; working directly with online course facilitators and other stakeholders the VCS refines the organized, accessible, courses that engage students through self-paced learner-centered inquiry. The VCS works with school and district leadership to implement and apply district-wide curriculum and instructional values in courses used at Summit Virtual Academy and online learning across the district. The Virtual Content Specialist will work with Middle School staff and students to engage in small group instruction, class engagement, and standards alignment. The role involves consulting with staff from diverse disciplines to identify course goals and applicable evidence-based instructional strategies, leading and collaborating with teams to make a positive impact on student achievement in the secondary level of Summit. As a staff member at Summit Virtual Academy, the VCS will also support the ITF with providing pedagogical training to staff through workshops, webinars, video tutorials, etc. regarding topics related to online instruction, the Canvas LMS, course design, and integration of instructional technology.

Qualification Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, educational technology or a similar field
• At least five years of prior teaching experience
• Experience with fully online teaching
• Technology proficiency and knowledge of digital learning
• Experience designing and leading staff development
• Understanding or certification in Quality Matters (QM) and/or Online Learning Consortium (OLC) in online course design and/or delivery
• Experience providing instructional design across modalities (i.e. face-to-face, hybrid and online courses)
• Experience designing learning environments for RSS students and underrepresented student groups
• Curriculum development and design experience

Essential Functions:

• Knowledge of instructional theory and, curriculum design including assessment Thorough understanding of curriculum theory and development, instructional design, and assessment and evaluation of learning.
• Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), such as Canvas
• Understanding of website design best practices
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Experience with design platforms, such as Canvas, Loom, NearPod, and Google Suite
• Familiarity with course management systems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues and clients
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines and quality standards and assigning/overseeing tasks with project collaborators
• Advanced skills in planning, organizing, and self-management
• Ability to facilitate collaboration, support, and approval from a variety of stakeholders
• Tracks progress on tasks using project management software, staying on top of deadlines, Self-assesses individual contributions for quality assurance and for internal best practices in learning and information design
• Flexibility and the ability to accommodate change.
• Excellent organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and handle divergent tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to tailor communication to an audience to achieve the desired result.
