PURPOSE: Accountable for implementing the In-School Suspension (ISS) program and
Reinforcing activities as prescribed by the referring teacher.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 48 semester hours which include core courses with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from accredited institution; OR
• Associate Degree or higher with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from an accredited institution; OR
• WorkKeys testing in Math - (min score 4); Reading - (min score 4); and Writing - (min score 3).
• Obtain and maintain bus license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift in excess of 25 pounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises students assigned to the ISS program.
• Orients students to the expectations of the ISS program.
• Gives individualized instruction and assignments as prescribed by the referring teacher.
• Follows direction of referring teacher toward obtaining goals and objectives.
• Maintains ISS classroom environment conductive to effective learning.
• Communicates accurate knowledge of subject matter in a comprehensive manner.
• Monitors work assigned by referring teacher, demonstrating the ability to check student comprehension of subject matter and providing accurate feedback to students.
• Encourages students to remain on task and to complete their assignments.
• Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
• Reports discipline problems to referring teacher or principal.
• Keeps records an evaluations on students assigned to the ISS program.
• Exhibits positive behavior toward students, parents, staff and administrators.
• Conducts self as a role model, exhibiting positive behavior.
• Will comply with all administrative directives in a timely and professional manner, including written directives regarding specific issues or behaviors.
• Will exhibit punctuality and regular attendance.
• Demonstrates a strong work ethic.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain bus license.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal in a timely and professional manner.
Bus Driver
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
A bus driver is required to perform duties of transporting students in accordance with federal, state and local rules and regulations and school board policy.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
• Drives a school bus safely and professionally
• Maintains order and discipline of students assigned to the school bus in accordance with the School Board Policies pertaining to discipline and School Code of conduct
• Completes daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of a school bus
• Complies with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
• Complies with School Board Policies and rules set forth by the school system’s transportation department
• Maintains logs and complete records
• Participates in training and workshops
• Performs other duties as may be assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to meet and maintain legal and physical requirements for North Carolina School Bus Certification and local rules
• Ability to operate and maneuver a school bus with proficiency
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels (i.e., administrators, parents, students, and the general public)
• Ability to exercise good judge in evaluation situations
• Ability to earn the respect of students of all ages and act sensitively to their needs
SPECAIL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), P & S endorsements
• Must be able to successfully complete a medical examination
• Must be required to successfully complete the physical standard testing set forth by the School Bus & Traffic Safety Section of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles and the Schools System’s Transportation Department.
