Position Title: Production Lead

Reports to: Production Manager

Position Description and Purpose: Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Roskam Foods is a leading contract manufacturer that partners with world-renowned food brands, retailers, and food service providers to produce a myriad of frozen, refrigerated and shelf-stable products. Key Responsibilities: 
  • Collects the Downtime information from each Operator and inputs it into a spreadsheet for tracking.
  • Ensures that food safety guidelines are being followed.
  • Verifies the total amount of product needed to be produced.
  • Collaborates with Operators to only make what the work order is calling for.
  • Observe the production process to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Ensure that all full bins are kept covered.
  • While the production machine is running, the lead confirms the parameters with the operator who is responsible.
  • Reports all product material thrown away to the Production Shift Manager.
  • Works with support departments to have the next product ready to go.
  • Last person to take lunch, relieves line techs for lunch and breaks.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions to increase department efficiency and ensure employees’ safety.
  • Adhere to all GMP and HACCP governing rules for production.
  • Creates a sense of urgency to get production to the next product. Encourages operators and technicians to complete orders on time.
  • Make sure to run consumption reports at the end of each run to ensure packaging materials and ingredients were properly consumed.
  • After each production run need to send leftover ingredients or packaging materials back physically and systematically to the shipping and receiving area.
  • Write the clean time(s) on the board by each line.
  • Recommends measures to improve production methods and quality of product.
  • Train Operators on how to complete their job and why they do things in a certain way.
  • Check lot numbers and quantities of ingredients before production starts, to make sure that we are running the correct ingredients, and formula percentages are correct.
Required and Preferred Qualifications: 
1) Must have a good secondary level (high school) education.
2) Must have good mathematical skills – add, subtract, divide, and multiply using a 
Calculator.
3) Must be able to understand how Ovens, mixers, and Extruders work.
4) Must be able to fill out reports to document the production for the day.
6) Must be able to give out instructions and directions to technicians on the line.
7) Be able to communicate effectively with the packaging lead and Supervisor.
8) Must be able to work weekends and overtime if necessary
9) 12 months experience as a lead
10). Experience in a manufacturing environment. 
11) Knowledge of Production machines, ERP systems, and how ingredients are consumed, Use of a calculator to determine your hourly output is required.
Compensation details: $22.80-$34.20
