The Department of Physics and Optical Engineering atRose-Hulman Institute of Technology seeks applicants for a tenure track facultyposition at the Assistant Professor level to support the Engineering Physicsdegree program starting August 2024. The Department of Physics and Optical Engineering offers aB.S. degree in physics, engineering physics, and optical engineering, alongwith an M.S. degree in optical engineering. The department also supportsseveral minors and certificates, including a semiconductor certificate and amaterial science and solid-state physics minor. Active research programsinclude semiconductors, nanotechnology, and photonics. In addition, engineeringphysics houses the primary users of a cleanroom facility for undergraduateteaching and research in nanotechnology, including e-beam lithography, atomiclayer deposition, and nanoimprint lithography along with other standardcleanroom tools. Undergraduate courses in the areas of semiconductor devices,nanotechnology, MEMS, and silicon photonics are currently taught in thecleanroom. Requirements include a Ph.D. degree in engineering orphysics; degree focusing on semiconductors, microfabrication, nanotechnology,or materials engineering is preferred. Candidates with advanced experience maybe considered for appointment at a higher academic rank. Essential jobfunctions include teaching and advising students; service to the department,Institute, and professional communities; and continued professionaldevelopment. Outstanding teaching is the most significant criterion for successat Rose-Hulman. The successful candidate will be expected to teach lower and upperdivision courses in engineering physics, including lab courses in thecleanroom, and lower division courses in physics.
