Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest (RMHC-UM) in partnership with our community, provides a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home that supports keeping families together and reduces stress during a child’s serious illness or injury. RMHC-UM operates five locations in Minnesota---four in the Twin Cities and one in Duluth, serving over 6,700 families a year, providing 76 overnight rooms, meals and activities for families with kids facing a medical crisis

The Program Coordinator at our Ronald McDonald House inside Children's Minnesota-Minneapolis: House inside the Hospital (HIH) operates as part of a team in the management and operation. The Program Coordinator works cooperatively with all team members of RMHC-UM to ensure all stakeholders’ necessities are met and that all families have an exceptional experience with RMHC services. The Program Coordinator will work with members of the development, volunteer, facility and finance/administration departments to meet organizational goals.

Primary Responsibilities

Guest/Program Management and Family Programming Assistance

  • Work closely with the House Management to maintain smooth operations of the facility including safety and security, inventory management and general maintenance.
  • Apply guidelines to make decisions regarding House operations in the absence of supervision including determining eligibility, working with hospital Social Workers to assign overnight rooms, family registration and management of family dynamics.
  • Work with the House Manager, Assistant Manager, volunteers and hospital staff to develop programming that further supports families and develops professional relationships.
  • Provide oversight of the daily cleaning to ensure it is maintained to defined standards of cleanliness and maintenance.
  • Assist in the supply management and inventory process to ensure the House is fit with at least two weeks of essentials.
  • Manage daily data records and ensure HIPAA standards are always met.

Manage and Support Volunteers

  • Greet and provide tasks/projects to weekly volunteers.
  • Greet, register and sign in Cooks for Kids volunteers.
  • Tour and orientate Cooks for Kids volunteers to the House.
  • Invite Cooks for Kids groups to sign up again along with informing them of other various ways to get involved in the organization.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all volunteers.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a 24-hour, part time position and hours of work are generally Monday-Thursday, 4:00pm-10:00pm. Other hours will be assigned as needed/available. Weekends and holidays are generally staffed by Family Services Managers however may be required based on the staffing needs of the program. This position includes being a part of an on-call schedule due to programming needs.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization and management of volunteers.
  • High tolerance for multi-tasking and interruption.
  • Ability to resolve interpersonal conflicts and determine needed components of risk management.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a phone, copy machine and computer printer
  • Experience with or ability to learn software
  • Operates as a team player and able to work effectively with all employees and constituents of RMHC-UM

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently load and unload carts, stock shelves, strip beds and remove laundry, make beds and take out trash weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Perform cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping and cleaning the kitchen
  • Move about to provide tours to families, volunteers, donors and hospital partners

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 24 per week
