Rokstad Power is Hiring a Safety Advisor Near Fort Smith, AR

Term: Permanent, Full-Time
Locations: Fort Smith, AR and Chino, CA

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Safety Advisor position is to act as a primary resource ensuring that the Health & Safety Program of Rokstad is endorsed and complied with during operational activities. This role will communicate with local management on related initiatives and issues. The primary role will be to provide support to the project team
and coordinate site safety requirements so that operational activities are adequately supported. The successful candidate must have a passion for safety and for creating safe work environments for employees and must be able to thrive in a dynamic and demanding work environment.

We have two Safety Advisor opportunities available: Fort Smith, Arkansas and Chino, California.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support field staff in safe operations that meet regulatory requirements;
  • Visit field sites on a daily basis, participating and conducting safety meetings, reviewing safety initiatives with field employees and conducting audit and safety reviews;
  • Conduct job hazard assessments and help crews understand the importance of, and the concepts of, Field Level Hazard Assessments;
  • Conduct workplace and jobsite safety inspections;
  • Conduct detailed incident investigations for injuries, property damage, and near miss incidents and report on findings including identifying causal factors and corrective actions;
  • Assist in the development of Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures;
  • Assess and ensures compliance to applicable safety legislation, and internal and customer protocols;
  • Assist in the development of health and safety performance measures, monitor and report on performance;
  • Work with the construction management crew leaders in a coaching and guiding role to increase field level safety knowledge and presence;
  • Attend Tailboard meetings, Health & Safety training and orientations;
  • Review Health & Safety related paperwork including tailboards, FLHA’s, inspections, etc.;
  • Recommend corrective actions and assist in timely implementation of corrective actions;
  • Provide input and assistance for Health & Safety Business Plan initiatives;
  • Work with colleagues and our clients to complete Project Safety Plans, Hazard Assessments and Risk Registries for Critical Tasks;
  • Help develop protocols for Health & Safety Audits;
  • Support the Return to Work program and processes;
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to address Health & Safety related issues;
  • Ensure that Health & Safety Management and project management are kept informed of Health & Safety issues in a timely manner;
  • Other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Work efficiently with minimal supervision;
  • Proven leadership and strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Excellent knowledge of OH&S laws and regulations, codes, and industry best practices that apply across the United States;
  • Strong knowledge of OHS Regulation, Workers’ Compensation Act and/or OSHA;
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities required to prioritize a high volume of tasks or competing priorities;
  • Willing to travel and work in remote locations for extended periods.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR CREDENTIALS

  • University Degree or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is strongly preferred;
  • Construction Safety Officer may be considered depending on level of experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in safety related duties;
  • Must have minimum 2 years’ experience with high voltage work. Transmission and Distribution;
  • Experience working in the construction industry and experience with contractors is an asset;
  • Candidate should have loss prevention experience and working knowledge in areas such as process safety management, safety management system development and implementation, incident/injury prevention,

hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis;

  • Certified COR Internal Auditor training is an asset;
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Construction Safety Officer or Certified Utility Safety Manager (CUSP) is an asset;
  • (CSO), Construction Safety Specialist (CSS) or other applicable qualification/designation is an asset.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in adverse outdoor weather conditions;
  • Must be able to work and walk in physical location of crew sites, which may include climbing ladders or equipment;
  • Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

HOW TO APPLY
Rokstad offers a competitive compensation and benefits package which will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for these positions is $90,000 to $120,000 depending on experience.
