PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Work in the service department performing service repairs on customers’ air compressor, blower, vacuum or pump system, while ensuring customer satisfaction with the repair.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Repairs (95%)
Perform service repairs in the field or in the shop, depending on the needs/assignments of the department. Reviews work order and related manuals, blueprints and schematic diagrams to determine tasks to be performed and tools, equipment and parts needed for installation or repair assignment.
Such duties include, but are not limited to:
· Repair industrial machinery; such as, air compressors (5-500HP), positive displacement pumps, liquid ring pumps, refrigerated dryers, desiccant dryers, and vacuum systems..
· On field service calls, discuss assignment with customer’s representative and inspect installation site to verify that electrical supply wires, conduit, switches and circuit breakers are installed according to specifications.
· Read/follow sketches, schematics, blueprints, manufacturer’s specifications and maintenance manuals to determine troubleshooting procedure.
· Troubleshoot, diagnose and perform repairs using system troubleshooting methodology and diagnostic tools.
· Interpret readings on gages, indicators and dials.
· Visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
· Dismantle machines and equipment to gain access to problem area, using hand tools and power tools.
· Inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems.
· Realign and adjusts components
· Apply knowledge of electrical circuits, mechanics, and pneumatics.
· Verify that electrical power is reaching the compressed air equipment and that voltage is as specified, using testing instruments.
· Test electrical components; such as, wiring, switches and relays, using test instruments, and replace faulty components.
· May troubleshoot programmable logic circuits with diagnostic tools.
· Locate damaged air pipes on machine and measures, cuts, threads and installs new pipe.
· Repairs broken parts, using brazing, soldering and welding equipment and hand tools.
· Start's machine and equipment to test operation following repair.
· May train customer’s staff in operation of compressed air machinery.
Shop or Vehicle Clean-up and/or inventory; administrative duties (5%)
· Maintain company vehicle
· Organize and manage truck’s stock parts and tools
· Complete time cards, work orders and other paperwork completely and in a timely manner
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Education: High School Diploma
· Specialized training: Mechanics, Refrigeration, Electricity/Electric Circuitry
· Previous Experience: Minimum of 2 years, power generation, mechanical, electrical or refrigeration troubleshooting and repair experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Reading: Ability to read and interpret documents; such as, safety rules, MSDS manuals, operating and maintenance manuals, procedure manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, mechanical sketches.
Verbal: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and customers. Participate in training, meetings and discussion groups effectively. Understand competition among vendors and the sensitivity of technical information.
Writing: Complete legible work orders with the necessary information so that a different technician could pick up where the repair was left off when necessary. Technical writing skills a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts; such as, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
APTITUDES -- TYPICAL PERFORMANCE
General learning ability is above average. Verbal, numerical, spatial perception, finger and manual dexterity, motor coordination, and clerical perception are generally required to be above average.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
STRENGTH: Heavy
Exert force of 50-100 lbs. occasionally and 25-50 lbs. frequently, 10-20 lbs. constantly.
OTHER PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Constant and occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking and driving.
VISION: Near acuity is needed constantly, far acuity occasional, depth perception frequent, color vision frequent and field of vision frequent.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Service work is sometimes performed in outdoor locations and is subject to ambient weather conditions. Service and testing of rotating equipment is routinely required. As a safety measure, it is mandatory that all guards be properly mounted prior to operating any equipment.
