Rockland County Department of Planning is Hiring an Attorney Near Pomona, NY

The Rockland County Department of Social Services is searching for a candidate to perform professional legal work of a moderately complex nature involving the representation of the County Department of Social Services in Family Court proceedings as well as providing day-to-day direction to a small number of lower-level attorneys within the department.

Duties include representing the Department in a variety of relatively complex legal matters, in a wide range of Family Court proceedings and related matters and any appellate work which may be tangentially involved, providing legal advice and assistance on complex matters, providing direction to other staff attorneys, collaborating with the Director of Legal Services and other legal personnel, handling matters pertaining to Family Court and other proceedings, drafting legal memorandums and opinions, representing the Department in various court cases, hearings and other legal proceedings as well as in various meetings, forums, seminars, legislative proceedings, acting for and in place of the Director of Legal Services, including staff supervision when necessary, conducting legal research and providing opinions on various complex legal questions, providing assistance to staff attorneys in resolving difficult legal problems and providing in-service training for casework staff on the interpretation and application of social welfare and/or related laws.

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a license to practice law in New York State and four years of experience in the practice of law, at least one year of which must have been engaged in public sector law at the state or local level. In addition, work experience must have included or been supplemented by one year of law practice, as an attorney, which substantially involved domestic relations, family law, and/or the protection of vulnerable adults or children. Candidate must provide a current certificate of good standing. A license to practice law in the State of New York must be maintained throughout the course of employment in this title.

Candidates must be a legal resident of Rockland County and will be required to take the Attorney III civil service examination and be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.

Competitive salary and benefits - $103,283 annually for a 40-hour work week. Medical, dental and vision are available in addition to paid time off including vacation, personal and holiday time. This position is New York State pension eligible.
