    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Director supports leadership at the district and school levels in career and technical education programs and curriculum development, revision, and review that supports district initiatives; supports teachers as they implement curriculum; effectively engages the community to sustain programming; provides mentoring to ensure retention of highly qualified teachers; and guides necessary changes to achieve excellence and equity.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
    • Regularly meet with the Executive Director and/or designee(s), school faculty, parents, and community members to provide leadership in program/curriculum development and implementation, staff development, and assessment.
    • Assist staff in understanding and implementing national, state, and district standards, in analyzing student achievement data, and in determining how to focus instruction to remediate and reinforce skills and knowledge in the content area.
    • Organize and facilitate discussions with classroom staff, administrators, and community members about curriculum and instruction to provide opportunities for teachers and staff to focus on curriculum design, articulation, classroom pedagogy, student work, assessment, grade reporting, student learning, instructional strategies, budget development, reading and writing across the curriculum and curriculum implementation.
    • Assist staff in the development and management of student observation techniques and other assessment strategies, such as authentic or performance assessments and portfolios, to determine student mastery of content skills as well as the use of formative and summative assessment data to guide decision-making for instruction and intervention.
    • Coordinate program offerings with local community colleges, universities, technical schools and certification programs to increase student access to career based certifications and college credits.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community based organizations in order to provide support regarding program alignment, offer teachers with professional development opportunities, and create student access to a variety of experiences (presentations, job shadowing, internships, etc.) to enhance the curriculum in core content areas as well as CTE courses. Assist building principals, assistant principals and school staff to develop school based partnerships with local organizations which support and sustain high quality CTE programs
    • Plan and coordinate staff development activities and provide support to new staff and staff whose teaching assignments have changed.
    • Work with the Executive Director to develop and maintain the CTE program budget (Perkins, CTEI and other grants/funding). Ensure CTE programs follow state guidelines pursuant to reinstitution of state grant. Coordinate ordering and distribution of materials.
    • Assist building principals and classroom staff with securing instructional materials and equipment. Support the effective use of these materials and equipment, including use of technology, the delivery of the district curriculum, effective instructional strategies, and application of student assessment techniques.
    • Support and develop student co-curricular activities aligned to CTE programs.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor systems to keep accurate records of activities provided in schools through community engagement and the resulting student attainment of district benchmarks and student activities.
    • Conduct a review of course offerings and instructional materials in order to make recommendations for change with involvement of instructional staff through district approved procedures.
    • Collaborate with other departments in order to promote internal and external communication, implementation and revision of district policies and regulations, and increased operational efficiencies; to include participating in assigned ongoing and task specific responsibilities for community engagement and curriculum/assessment committees.
    • Keep abreast of new materials, current research trends, techniques and ideas through reading professional materials and attendance at seminars, conferences, workshops within and outside of the district.
    • Assume any other duties as may from time to time be delegated by the Executive Director. The Executive Director may make any adjustment in the scope of responsibilities as outlined above which will be in the best interest of the school district.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Demonstrated success in providing staff development using best practices
    Licensed as a teacher and/or administrator in the state of Illinois is required
    Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use the data from assessments to inform changes in classroom instruction
    Demonstrated success in working with adults and working knowledge of adult learning theories
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Degree from an accredited college/university that is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education
    Demonstrated success as an educator
    Training or course work in a variety of research-based techniques/programs
    Training or experience facilitating groups and working with adult learners
    Understanding of Perkins, CTEI and other grants/funds
    Past experience in CTE preferred
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
