Position Description
With the guidance of the Youth Sports Supervisor, The Cheer and Dance Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and evaluating programming and inventory/ equipment needs for youth, teens, and families. This includes NFL Cheer and Dance, Jr. NBA Cheer and Dance, camps, and special events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned

Operational Excellence

  • Analyzes, makes recommendations, and assists Youth Sports Supervisor regarding the quality of programming content, monitoring participation, and evaluating the success of program participants as well as evaluates and gives constructive feedback to program staff concerning leadership development, program activities, site specific protocol, and weekly curriculum.
  • Completes and collects business transactions correctly and on time (i.e. verifying staff timesheets, submitting purchasing receipts, accident reports, site logs, weekly site attendance, equipment inventory, evaluations of staff and other reports as requested by the Youth Sports Supervisor).
  • Uses effective and positive communication with program participants, staff, parents/guardians, and internal and external agencies as requested. Acts as a RPD liaison for the Youth Sports Supervisor while communicating with collaborating agencies.
  • Active recruiter for the Cheer and Dance program according to the strategic plan laid out by the Youth Sports Team
  • Organizes and conducts staff and parent meetings for athletic programming.
  • Prepares program information for distribution prior to the start of the season.
  • Determines season structures and/or placement of participants into appropriate divisions.
  • Functions as a substitute for program staff when necessary. Finds subs for program staff when necessary. Monitors staff ratios and works with Program Coaches to shift staff based on need.
  • Attends all trainings and meetings as determined by the Youth Sports Supervisor.
  • Gathers, loads, transports and sets-up supplies and equipment for the program sites, maintains inventory of athletic equipment.
  • Enforces all rules, regulations and policies set up by the Rockford Park District.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department safety procedures. Attends safety training programs and educational in-service opportunities as required, and enforces rules and regulations set-up by the Rockford Park District.
  • Meets, greets, and communicates with parents/guardians and volunteers on a regular basis.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Education/Experience

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent with some college level coursework in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field. At least 3 years’ experience working in Sports related programming (organizing, coaching, officiating, or overseeing athletic leagues and tournaments). Experience coordinating cheer programs a plus.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a strong knowledge of cheer and dance, choreography routines, and skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for transportation between multiple sites
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently under stressful conditions, including situations involving program participants, staff conflicts, and dissatisfied customers
  • First Aid, CPR and AED training (can be obtained through Rockford Park District).

  • This is a physically active position that involves stamina.
  • Mobility to various locations needed.
  • Assist occasionally with caring for physical needs of participants including toileting, transferring, or pushing participants in wheelchair
