Rockdale County, Georgia is Hiring a Law Enforcement Mgmt. Coordinator Near Conyers, GA

Job Summary: The primary function of this position is administrative work in implementing the Sheriff's Office's public relations tasks and other management programs. Work involves independent organizational ability and the ability to assimilate, interpret and act upon information and set priorities of activities. Attention to detail, confidentiality, and multi­ tasking are important skills for an incumbent in this position. The person in this position may be a civilian or a certified deputy sheriff.

Major Duties:

  • Conducts research for special projects; assists with the implementation of special projects and programs.
  • Answers and responds to citizen inquiries.
  • Plans and implements public information programs to promote the public's understanding of Sheriff's Office operations, functions, and accomplishments; speaks at various school functions on behalf of the Sheriff's Office.
  • Represents the Sheriff's Office at public meetings and community functions.
  • Assists with the publication of Sheriff's Office public information literature - including, but not limited to: newsletters, brochures, flyers, Sheriff's Office website updates, and other social media postings.
  • Performs general administrative duties as assigned by the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, or designee.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge Required by the Position:

  • Thorough knowledge of journalistic and public relations principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding law enforcement agencies.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in prioritizing, scheduling, and delegating assignments.
  • Skill in operating modern office equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to use tact and courtesy in dealing with the public.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to make engaging public presentations.
  • Ability to speak professionally with the public and the media

Supervisory Controls: The Sheriff or his designee assigns work in terms of agency goals and objectives. Work is reviewed through observation, reports, and conversations about activities. The employee works independently in managing work assignments and setting priorities.

Guidelines: Guidelines include applicable laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures related to public safety communications and law enforcement standards. These guidelines require sound judgment and interpretation in application.

Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with the public, the media, co-workers, law enforcement officers, county employees, and employees from other governments and agencies.

Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically to give and exchange information, resolve conflicts, and provide services.

Physical Demands: Work is typically in an office and field environment.

Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office and field environment. Employees may work at any location within the County.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certified Peace Officer under regulations of Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) certified deputy sheriff
  • Two to four years of increasingly responsible experience in a similar or related field.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
