Job Summary

 This position performs supervisory and skilled-level work in the maintenance and upkeep of County parks and recreational facilities. Work involves supervising and scheduling work crews, purchasing materials, performing daily inspections, ensuring maintenance and safety standards are followed, developing work plans, reviewing work orders, responding to citizen complaints, monitoring budget expenditures, and personnel administration.

Essential Functions

Plans, organizes, assigns, schedules, and coordinates crews involved in grass cutting, curb and sidewalk maintenance, ball field, grounds, and facility maintenance of all County properties, working with crews as required.

Purchases and maintains an inventory of materials and equipment.

Trains and instructs workers in methods and procedures; makes decisions regarding the work to be performed in an assigned area.

Evaluate the work of the assigned crew and make recommendations for disciplinary actions as needed. 

Completes work orders and reports on work performed.

Ensures proper safety procedures and guidelines are followed.

Assists in budget preparations for assigned areas; conducts research and monitors implementation. 

Additional Duties:

Employees in this classification may be expected to perform any related duties as required by proper authority.

Knowledge of turf management practices and procedures including fertilization, aerification, drainage, mowing, planting, pesticide application, and roadside safety practices.

Knowledge of Rockdale County Human Resource policies and procedures. Knowledge of budget management techniques and methods.

Skill in operating modern office equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of crews involved in all areas of landscape management and facility maintenance.

Ability to maintain accurate records, complete reports and perform administrative functions.

Ability to operate a 3/4-ton truck, landscape trucks, tractors, trimmers, mowers, chippers, dump trucks, and loaders.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees, and the public.

Ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects weighing more than 60 pounds; to climb into and operate large equipment and trucks; to walk over rugged terrain, etc.

Ability to withstand working outside in all extreme weather conditions.

 Working Conditions

The work is typically performed indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and may involve potential exposure to hazards such as chemicals.

 Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Five (5) years of progressively responsible landscape or park maintenance work. Must have one (1) year of supervisory experience.
3. Or have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
