Purpose and Scope of the Job
The purpose of the Research Administrator for Proposal Development is to provide support and guidance for researchers in the procurement of sponsored project funding at Rochester Institute of Technology. This person will assist faculty in the process of identifying appropriate funding opportunities, developing competitive proposals, budget development, and ensuring compliance with governing regulations and institute policies.
This position requires close working relationships with faculty and staff across multiple colleges and divisions at RIT. This position also requires some communication with funding agencies and partner organizations. Excellent communications skills are essential for this position.
This Research Administrator position will be focused primarily departments in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering but will frequently work across colleges and divisions. Previous experience with proposal writing, project management, or research administration is helpful.
Major Responsibilities
Provide assistance in the development of proposals for sponsored research, including:
  • Assist faculty and staff with proposal design and development;
  • Create budgets in agency-specific formats;
  • Manage electronic research administration functions;
  • Ensure proposal compliance with RIT policies, sponsor guidelines and applicable state and federal regulations;
  • Research, identify and disseminate information about sponsors and funding opportunities aligned with assigned divisions at RIT;
  • Match fundable ideas and RIT expertise with potential sponsors;
  • Facilitate teams of RIT faculty/staff and external partners to develop collaborative projects;
  • Review and edit proposals to ensure overall excellence in all documents.

Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years higher education or related experience required
  • Experience with proposal development, budgeting, research administration, and/or grant writing is helpful
  • Strong reading, writing, computing, and interpersonal communication skills required
