Detailed Job Description
The Events and Social Media Manager, under the supervision of the Associate Director, provides strategic leadership for the event coordination and management for the MAGIC Center | MAGIC Spell Studios programmatic initiatives. The Manager is also responsible for MAGIC's social media, digital, and web presence.
The Manager will:
  • Provide leadership for the planning and execution of logistics for all programmatic events, serving a diverse group of constituents, including: students, faculty/staff, alumni, guests, current and prospective partners, and clients. Events include, but are not limited to, RIT signature events such as Imagine RIT and Brick City Homecoming; MAGIC programming such as the MAGIC Speaker Series, Frameless Symposium and more. The Manager will be empowered to contribute independently and exercise strategic leadership in all phases of event planning and execution. The Manager will work closely with university partners and service providers to execute on these events. The Manager will also provide logistical and event support by serving as a "Production Assistant" when commercial production is taking place on our sound stage.
  • Provide direction for events related to our Digital Game Hub initiative, a NYS- designated Center of Excellence. A key priority for MAGIC is the expansion of outreach within the RIT, Rochester, and New York state communities as it relates to digital media research and production; the Manager will be empowered to develop new programming to help meet these objectives.
  • Serve as a content creator and manager on MAGIC's current social media platforms and will be responsible for the day to day management of these platforms. The Manager will be empowered to develop strategies for an expanded social media presence on new platforms. Other digital strategies, including the website, as well as the coordination of the building's digital displays, will also be the responsibility of the Manager. Provide strategic leadership for the planning, logistics, and execution of all events sponsored by MAGIC Center | MAGIC Spell Studios both on campus and off. Serve as events manager for all events. Manager will coordinate event logistics with RIT service providers. The Manager is responsible for resolving any issues arising during events to ensure a successful conclusion including debriefing events to identify successes, gaps and planned improvements.
  • Provide leadership for all MAGIC programmatic events, including but not limited to the MAGIC Speaker Series, conferences, symposia and programming for guests as well as support for the Digital Game Hub initiative. The Manager will assist with the design and execution of customized VIP visits to showcase MAGIC Center | MAGIC Spell Studios.
  • Participate as MAGIC representative on all signature campus event committees (i.e. BCH, Imagine RIT, etc.), serving as the architect of the programing for the MAGIC Center | MAGIC Spell Studios at these events. Liaises with RIT event managers on co-branded and collaborative programming. Develops and publishes MAGIC events calendar and oversees all associated non-academic activity hosted in MAGIC's facilities, both in-person and virtual.
  • Manage administrative tasks as needed to support MAGIC Center | MAGIC Spell Studios events, including the supervision of student employees, event ambassadors and volunteers. Leads technical and operational support for events at MAGIC.
  • Manager will be empowered to develop new initiatives and strategies to meet organizational goals and objectives including conceptualizing new events.
  • Supervise the student "Content Creation" team, including the approval of student developed content.
  • Manage social media and website content creation.
  • Develop and execute the publicity and marketing strategies for MAGIC Center| MAGIC Spell Studios events.
  • Provide support to the MAGIC Technology and Building Manager by serving in the on-set professional role of "Production Assistant" when commercial film production is scheduled on the sound stage. Support roles will include pre-production coordination and communication with university partners such as Public Safety, Government and Community Relations, etc.
  • Coordinate facility use and scheduling utilizing Lenel and EMS.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements to support off-site MAGIC events and programming (i.e. NAB, GDC, etc.).

MAGIC is a digital sandbox for students and faculty pushing the boundaries of technology, art and design!
MAGIC Spell Studios exists to support the entrepreneurial ambitions of our students and faculty who are seeking to publish and distribute films, games and interactive experiences or start new digital media businesses. It also serves as a home to outside commercial activity in film production, digital design, and game development, welcoming companies to interact with RITs best creative minds.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2-4 years of experience in:
    • event management, planning and hosting
    • marketing, social media or related field
