Roanoke City School District is Hiring a Food Truck Operator Near Roanoke, VA

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs intermediate skilled work in the operation of food and nutrition programs, including but not limited to the transport and operation of the food truck/trailer. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Director of Food and Nutrition.


ESSENTIAL TASKS

The following duties are normal for this position.   • Prepares and Operates Food Truck/Trailer:
    • Stock and restock supplies.
    • Prepare and cook food.
    • Clean and sanitize equipment.
    • Ensure safety and sanitation standards are met.
  • Manages requests for food truck events:
    • Obtaining request details
    • Providing quotes
    • Handling payment transactions
    • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Order supplies.
    • Track stock levels.
    • Minimize waste to maintain a well-equipped food truck.
    • Quality Control:
    • Prepare and cook food items according to the food truck’s menu.
    • Maintain high-quality standards in taste and presentation.
    • Personnel Management:
      • Oversee food truck staff members, including cooks, food preparers, cashiers and interns.
      • Ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed.
    • Financial and Administrative Tasks:
      • Maintain required records, including food production, inventory, income/expense, meal counts, and personnel records.
    • Customer Satisfaction:
      • Respond to customer preferences and complaints.
      • Expedite food service.
      • Ensure a satisfactory dining experience.
    • Equipment Maintenance:
      • Maintain food truck equipment, including the refrigerator, stove, prep table, and cookware.
      • Direct the cleaning of the truck and commercial kitchen.
    • Operates commercial kitchen equipment, diesel generator and district vehicles including towing heavy equipment.
    • Where needed, assist others with other food and nutrition programs as needed.
    • Performs all duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Thorough knowledge of food preparation and food safety practices; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned trade; skilled in the use of tools and equipment; ability to follow and issue oral and written instructions; considerable knowledge of proper safety precautions regarding equipment maintenance; ability to maintain routine administrative reports and records; ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments; ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    High School Diploma and/or several years of experience in food service operations preferred. Demonstrated professional knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and driving large motor vehicles. Serve Safe certificate required within 60 days of hire.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, copiers, heavy equipment/generator, and commercial kitchen equipment, various hand tools, etc. Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles and tow a 14-foot trailer. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a positive driving record. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.


    WORK ENVIRONNMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreaser, and sprays. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
