Roads to Success is Hiring a Behavior Specialist (after school) Near New York, NY

OUR MISSION: Our mission is to inspire and empower all young people to take control of their future.

PROGRAM DESIGN: RTS facilitates a variety of youth programs including after-school, summer camps, retreats, conferences and summer employment opportunities reaching thousands of young people throughout NYC each year. RTS emphasizes the youth development practice of the Circle of Courage in all our programs; creating an environment of Belonging, where young people can build their Independence, find and develop their Mastery skill, and practice Generosity in their communities. At the core of our programs are staff training strategies that enable our young professionals to develop extraordinarily meaningful relationships with the young people in their care who we call Our Future Leaders because that is what they all are.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: A Behavior Specialist assist with observing and assessing participant behavior. Behavior Specialists are expected to develop interventions and behavior plans for participants with challenging behaviors.

ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE:

  • Supervisor: Site Director
  • Max Hours: 20 per week (02/01/23 – 06/16/23)
  • Days: 5 per week, Monday – Friday (2:00 – 6:00pm)
  • Location: 176 East 115th Street NY, NY 10029
  • Compensation: $25 per hour

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide guidance for participants with challenging behaviors.
  • Assist with participant intervention and conflict resolution. 
  • Utilize one on one or group setting for mediation or de-escalation. ​​​​
  • Facilitate behavior and bullying resolution workshops.
  • Develop procedures and training for staff at program site. 
  • Work collaboratively with parents and teachers to maximize student behavior.
  • Encourage a positive environment promoting mutual support and the desire to learn and grow.
  • Attend mandatory scheduled meetings and professional development trainings.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Site Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Psychology or related field.
  • At least two years of experience in youth development.
  • At least two years of experience in behavior management in a school setting.
  • Strong communication skills, critical thinking skills, and active listing skills.
