Job Summary:
RMR Services, a local utility contractor, is looking for full-time Water Meter Technicians to service water meters throughout Cedar Rapids, IA and the upper Midwest.
Job Description:
Water Meter Technicians will perform a variety of tasks on water meters and the electronic reading devices attached to the meters; including meter changes, register head changes, installation and maintenance of radio devices, and installation of reading devices on the home.
Technicians receive appointments and work orders through an app on a company provided phone or tablet, route their work, and travel between jobs to complete the required installation work.
Water meters are primarily located inside, so access must be gained through appointments set by our call center and cold call door knocking by the technician.
Pipe wrenches are used to replace water meters and basic hand tools are used to replace and maintain the electronic reading devices. Water meters are normally set close to the ground, in tight spaces, so there is a substantial amount of sitting, bending, kneeling, and reaching involved with this position. Applicants must have the ability to exert 30 to 50 pounds of force regularly to loosen meter nuts. Some of the automated reading devices are mounted outside so wire must be installed from the meter in the basement to the meter reading device outside.
RMR Services is actively pursuing installation contracts in Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas, so this position will require regular overnight travel. When travel is required, technicians will typically spend eight nights in a two week cycle away from home depending on contract location. Travel expenses will be paid for by the company.
Applicant Qualifications:
RMR Services is looking for honest and reliable individuals who are self motivated, detail oriented, have good oral and written communication skills, basic computer knowledge, and good map reading skills.
Anyone with construction or wire/cable running experience are encouraged to apply. Plumbing experience is also a plus.
Candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
Applicants are encouraged to include a cover letter explaining why they are interested in the position and what qualities/experience they have that would make them a good Water Meter Technician.
