RLI Core Requirements In the performance of their respective tasks and duties, all employees are expected to conform to the following: Perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision. Position Purpose Under general supervision, a Senior Cloud Engineer designs and builds the network infrastructure that empowers all RLI Products and Teams. A RLI Senior Cloud Engineer is a subject matter expert in network technologies and architecture, has programming experience to automate their responsibilities through code, is a leader in network platform engineering and design, and can translate complex business requirements into actionable technology execution. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Assist team members on creation of next-generation hybrid data center network design. Help develop, document, communicate and enforce network technology policies, risk assessments, and contingency plans. Create design architecture documentation and metadata. Execute proof of concept and pilot. Plan ahead for required platform updates and enhancements to support system health and corporate growth. Administer and support core Azure, FortiNet, VMware, and hybrid network platforms. Assists with cloud and software vendor evaluations, recommendations, and negotiations. Design, document, and implement network monitoring, configuration management, and reporting functions. Participate in 7x16 Infrastructure on-call rotation for Production issues and monthly off-hours maintenance activities. Interact with RLI associates at the technical level, as required. Work with IT Security department to maintain security requirements and provide documentation and training on auditable IT network processes. Participate in monthly Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulatory reports on IT systems compliance. Mentors team members and educates on existing and new technologies. Reviews procedures and work processes against best practice and implements improvements and automation. Other duties, as assigned. Education & Experience 7 years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. OR bachelor’s degree or better in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4 years technical experience in network design, development, and automation. Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies Hands on experience with well-known network device technologies (examples: FortiNet, Juniper, Aruba, Cisco, Aviatrix, et al) At least 4 years’ experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and comparable cloud platforms. Experience with network hardware designs. Success in deployment of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automation of network tasks. Holding profession networking certification encouraged but not required (examples: CCNA, JNCIE, FCP). Familiarity with the Insurance Industry preferred but not required. Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills. Organized with ability to manage large-scale projects of varying length. Familiarity with Information Technology lifecycle management processes. Operational experience in multi-datacenter, multi-cloud environments. Hands-on experience and success in network automation and infrastructure as code (IaC.) Positive and self-motivated individual who can prosper with little supervision. Flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing enterprise technologies and environment. Physical Requirements / Work Environment Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing. Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of standard office machinery. Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
