Role Summary

Rivian is seeking a seasoned, self-confident EV battery test facility manager to oversee the operations of the test and validation lab. This position will oversee the testing operations at the newly expanded world-class battery lab in Normal, IL. This position will lead a team including managers, battery test and validation engineers, and technicians and support the startup of the 87,000 sqft expansion. This position will develop and drive processes, efficiency, and culture into the new lab to ensure stakeholders receive world-class testing, communication, and experience.

Responsibilities

Operational management of the battery Test & Validation lab. This will include maintaining compliance with Rivian Policies and ISO17025 guidelines. Setting operational Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to monitor performance, implementation of continuous improvements, all associated supervisory responsibilities, assessing training needs, conducting performance reviews, etc.

Collaborate with all Rivian Propulsion team lab managers and the Director of Battery Test and Validation to ensure the lab is staffed and equipped to meet business needs and forecasted growth plans.

Support the hiring, training, growth, and development of managers, technicians, and engineers, particularly in battery technology, testing, performance, and safety. Support the aspirations and development of these employees.

Develop lab and equipment strategy and best practices to support efficient and cost-effective lab operations.

Collaborate with the Director of Battery Test and Validation and Propulsion business leadership to craft future strategic plans and capital projects.

Ensure the site operations maintain compliance with environment, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.

Qualifications

Well-versed in the technical/engineering details of HV battery testing, validation, operations, equipment, and facilities.

Demonstrated ability to manage lab operations and people teams.

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

Self-starter with a positive outlook and motivated attitude.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Material Science, or Mechanical)
