The Ward Clerk provides assistance to the nursing staff by performing clerical and record keeping functions.

Qualifications:

Language Skills
Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication, and able to communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff members; General knowledge of medical and nursing terminology helpful.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Schedule physician appointments
  • Chart vital signs
  • Refill chart forms
  • Complete room tray requests
  • Receive and distribute mail
  • Maintain ancillary charge out ledger
  • Record equipment rentals
  • Maintain nursing supplies
  • Maintain nursing equipment
  • Maintain clinical forms needed at nursing station
  • Assist with the documentation of resident admission, discharge, and transfer
  • Inventory/mark residents’ personal possessions, clothing, and valuables
  • Communicate relevant resident information to the supervisors
  • Pull charts of residents scheduled for care planning conferences
  • Answer the telephone at the nursing station and direct calls
  • Enter/record data timely and accurately
  • Protect confidentiality of resident information
  • Protect data against loss or destruction
  • Report suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues

Process Improvement
Apply PI methods and techniques, and identify processes for improvement in daily work.
