Summary:

The PCS House Supervisor is to coordinate the functions and activities of all hospital departments, as a continuous operation throughout weekdays and weekends, in the absence of administration personnel.
Experience/Education Requirements:
  • Graduate from an approved school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Three years of clinical experience with progressive management experience in a healthcare setting.

    License or Certification Requirements:

  • Registered as a nurse in the state of Illinois.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • CPI within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists when trouble Omnicell hospital equipment.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional activities.
  • Coordinates functions between departments.
  • Coordinates necessary activities during Code SSS and other emergency situations.
  • Determines the need to notify administrator on-call or Director to serve in crisis situation.
  • Evaluates individual emergencies and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Documents problems & counseling sessions with patients, families, or staff as needed.
  • Evaluates disaster situations & serves as a lead member of disaster team.
  • Coordinates necessary activities during Trauma Alert.
  • Responds to Code Blue and records as necessary.
  • Facilitates customer relations with patients, families, media and public, and presents a positive image.
  • Initiates downtime procedures in absence of Director
  • Interacts & communicates with physicians, staff, customers, families, and managers
  • Monitor & adjust staffing according to acuity & census, benchmarks
  • Monitors & maintains compliance with regulatory & professional standards.
  • Conducts environment of care surveillance.
  • Monitors & reports in writing potential or actual deficiencies or liabilities of patient care or personnel problems to manager.
  • Monitors, supervises and evaluates performance of hospital personnel
  • Monitors staff for initiating proper procedures when a patient expires.
  • Coordinates organ donation procedure as necessary
  • Obtains equipment from materials management when not available on unit
  • Review unit specific & Infection Control placement criteria when placing all admissions
  • Serves as a resource person for all departments and/or knows location of resource people & how to contact them.
  • Works with other hospital in obtaining materials if appropriate.
  • Supervises transfer of a patient in an emergency.
  • Supervises emergent services such as OR, Cath Lab, IR.
  • Support hospital, administrative policies and procedures

    Blood and Body Fluids: Diagnostic composite of patient frequent contact with IV devices & high potential for contaminated body fluids (blood, vomitus, & stool) & administration of blood do create high risk. However, appropriate usage of needleless IV system, universal precautions, & protective equipment should minimize risk
    TB or Airborne Pathogens: Patient diagnostic presentations do pose high risk; usage of protective wear and universal precautions reduces risk.

    Speech: Needed for communication with staff, doctors, patients, families, and other hospital personnel. Able to call for help.

Lifting equipment-carry 25-150' - waist high (IV bags, patient trays). Carry charts 25-150' waist high. Filled laundry bags are filled half full so as not to weight over 35 lbs. Carry fire extinguishers up or down 3-4 flights of stairs and several yards in an emergency.
