Summary:

The Director of Nursing Operations and Clinical Innovation will provide direct administrative and clinical oversight of the Intensive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Cardiac Telemetry Unit, and Respiratory Therapy. The Director will oversee a service line that improves care across the continuum by serving as a leader in developing, catalyzing, and incubating pioneering approaches at the intersection of quality care, process improvement, and innovation. T his position will report to the Chief Nursing Officer and work hands-on with the Medical Directors throughout the Critical Care Service line to advance clinical and service outcomes of the organization, while ensuring the nursing staff is up to date with continuous nursing education needs. T he Director demonstrates the following Leadership Behaviors: Leads, Influences, and Empowers others by creating an environment that fosters personal investment and excellence, actively encourages commitment to a common vision and shared values, creating opportunities and giving people latitude to develop and achieve and by promoting collaboration and teamwork.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as manager or director in a Critical Care area.
  • MSN/MBA or comparable master's degree
  • Knowledge and experience in High Reliability and Patient Safety culture preferred
  • Proven healthcare leadership in an acute care setting with discernible achievement of clinical outcomes

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of the service line in collaboration with the VP and Quality Department
  • Plan, lead, and oversee system initiatives at the intersection of quality and innovation
  • Lead, plan, direct and coordinate selected high-profile, innovative improvement/research initiatives
  • Plans, participates and conducts quality monitoring and enhancement activities; actively participating in systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing quality and patient safety programs, process improvement, desired patient-centered outcomes, and organizational outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively across the organization, including but not limited to directors and managers of quality/process improvement/analytics/IT & IS, CNO, CMO, other operational leaders
  • Leads collaborative efforts with interdisciplinary committees such as Sepsis, Palliative Care, Code Review and Inpatient Critical Care Committee. Maintain and enhance collaborative partnerships with infection prevention, cardiovascular, neuro/neurosurgical, renal, trauma and patient experience.
  • Works with service line leaders and managers to establish departmental scope of service, goals and strategic plans for the department; staying up-to-date on new developments in the field and incorporating such in the department’s scope of service; reviews departmental policies, procedures, and systems; conducts appropriate department promotional activities and participates in health system market activities. This leader will consider the diverse needs of each patient through the entire continuum of care, providing and ensuring the highest level of service according to established service standards, optimizing the patient experience.
  • Mentors and develops leaders and staff to assume leadership roles both formally and informally, via role modeling and facilitating staff participation in a shared leadership structure.
  • Maintain high levels of staff engagement, feedback, and performance
  • Manage team financials and budget process
  • Actively participate in presenting research at conferences and writing up research for publication
  • Advance patient care quality and safety across the organization through innovation and collaborative learning.
