Position: Youth Pastor

Job Description: Responsible for the coordination of ministry to youth from 6 -12 grade in accordance with the mission, vision, and goals of the church. Position reports directly to the Pastoral Leadership Team. Position will work in partnership with the Pastor of Children’s Ministries.

Time Commitment: 15-20 hours/wk. Core programs take place on Sunday mornings.

Compensation: Determined by experience.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a godly character, have superior people skills, and be adept at building and motivating teams. He or she must be a good communicator, well-organized, and self-motivated. Seminary training is an asset, but not required. Must live in the west San Gabriel Valley, close to Monterey Park.

Summary of Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Development of Youth Ministry: The Youth Pastor will oversee our youth programs, and all volunteer teachers and leaders for children in 6 to 12 grade. These programs include:
• Sunday Youth Church
• Outreach to youth in the city
• Special Youth Events
• Being personally present for youth and their families.

• Volunteer Supervision and Development: The Youth Pastor will foster a loving, safe environment for youth to grow in faith by:
• Recruiting and developing a team of dedicated volunteers who love kids and are able to mentor them spiritually, both one-on-one and in small groups.
• Performing screening of potential youth workers, conducting background checks, and keeping track of all information.
• Providing information for the overseeing pastor(s) to give feedback and reviews.

• Additional Duties: The Youth Pastor will also be required to:
• Attend staff meetings when required by the Pastoral Leadership Team.
• Lead all Youth Ministry team meetings.
• Partner with local schools and non-profit organizations to serve youth in Monterey Park.
• Help to develop and maintain a Youth Ministry calendar, in collaboration with the overseeing pastor(s).
• Keep track of spending according to the annual budget for the Youth Ministry.
• Ensure timely, effective communication of all Youth Ministry activities with staff, parents, volunteers, and the youth.
• Attend occasional workshops and conferences to stay informed about current best practices in youth ministry and share these insights with the church.
• Preach during our Sunday gatherings on occasion.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Mature Christian in faith, practice, and character.
• College-level education. Seminary experience is an asset.
• At least 2 years of experience in youth ministry, teaching, and/or management experience.
• Ability to disciple youth towards a deeper relationship with Christ.
• Strong communication and teaching skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to recruit, motivate, manage, and lead teams of volunteers.
• Ability to work well with diverse cultures.
• Able to relate well to parents of youth and inspire them to serve in ministry.
• Superior conflict resolution skills.
• Able to stay calm and flexible under pressure.

• If married, the candidate's spouse must fully support his or her employment with our church.
• Candidates must provide positive and unconditional written recommendation from each of the following people: 1) a pastor or spiritual leader, 2) an employer, present or past, and 3) a friend or family member other than a spouse.
