River Market Community Co-op is hiring a Sales and Operations Manager!

We are currently seeking a dedicated leader to guide us into our next chapter and uphold our longstanding commitment to our community and values. 

Experience-based pay ranging from $50,000 - $57,000 annually

Exempt position

Reports to: General Manager
Supervises: Center Store Floor Manager, Deli Manager, Front End Manager, Maintenance staff, Produce Manager, Wellness Manager

As our Sales and Operations Manager, you will ensure smooth daily store operations, prompt and friendly customer service and a well-maintained store appearance. You'll work with all direct reports to ensure fairness and equity for policy adherence, maintain a positive work environment, and develop proactive work relationships with them that meet store goals for sales, margins, labor, and customer service. You will ensure operational systems are in place to promote efficiencies and ensure clear channels of communication across all departments. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve internal and external customers accurately, politely and enthusiastically 
  • Treat people with dignity and respect; behave ethically and with integrity at all times and tolerate no less from others
  • Proactively seek and implement innovative solutions to increase quality, value, service and efficiency for our owners and customers
  • Attend management team meetings
  • Attend Board of Director Meetings, as needed
  • Follow all guidelines on confidentiality
  • Coordinate operations between and among departments
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulations relative to retail operations and food handling safety
  • Supervise significant personnel actions in the assigned departments in compliance with applicable State and Federal laws, and store policy, past practice and union contract, make recommendations to Human Resources and General Manager when needed
  • Working with the HR Department, ensure all store employees receive adequate orientation, safety training and on the job training
  • Partner with management teams to ensure the customer journey is effectively managed, optimized and continually improved upon to provide an incredible experience for the customer 
  • Oversee in-store signage for consistency and sales promotion
  • Maintain department equipment is in working order and advise General Manager of problems or needs
  • Oversee facilities staff in maintaining store grounds in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
  • Contract with and oversee cleaning, snow removal, security, pest control, preventative maintenance and other services as requested by Department Managers and General Manager
  • Ensure company-wide policies, standards and procedures are communicated, supported and followed
  • Review and implement departmental communications to ensure consistency across departmental lines
  • Participate in development of operating budgets for all store departments. 
  • Work with Department Managers convert budget into department plans with clear expectations
  • Monitor performance against initiatives and financial targets
  • Work with Department Managers to create plans to manage inventory turns
  • Using labor reports, ensure appropriate labor expense per department
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the General Manager

Work Environment: 

The work environment for this position is primarily an office-based setting, with many duties also requiring work in a grocer-based setting. This employee must be able to work independently and stay focused in the midst of frequent interruptions. Occasional remote work may be available, dependent on business needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years prior work experience in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and progressive discipline 
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment and bring a serious amount of passion to team development
  • Ability to plan, develop, execute and assess efficient retail operational systems 
  • Ability to address and resolve conflict positively and decisively 
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal 
  • Consistent follow through on commitments
  • Detail oriented 
  • Metrics-focused with demonstrated ability to help team meet and exceed performance objectives
  • Experience with and knowledge of natural foods
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic including counting, addition and subtraction
  • Computer proficiency in: MS Office Suite-Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe Suite
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: Must be physically able to occasionally grasp, grip, pull, push, twist, and turn as needed.

Approximately 95% of the time: Administrative duties, sitting

Constant (67-100%): Talking, hearing, correctable vision including near acuity and depth perception

Frequent (34-66%): Walking, standing

Occasional (1-33%): Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds floor to waist, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds floor to waist, lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance floor to waist, lifting and reaching waist to shoulder, lifting and reaching above the shoulder
