Richmond Region Tourism is Hiring a Digital Content Manager Near Richmond, VA

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Content Manager is responsible for content creation, curation and analytics for Visit Richmond VA social media channels, blog posts, and e-communications aimed at increasing leisure visits and meeting/convention/sports bookings and stays in the Richmond Region. This position will also support messaging on digital platforms for the BLK RVA initiative to boost Black travel and overnight stays and present the Richmond Region as a dynamic and welcoming destination for all visitors.

Responsibilities include writing original content, sourcing sharable content, leveraging video and image-oriented social platforms by creating visual content, analyzing and reporting results, and supporting marketing outreach and internal clients as needed with copywriting, editing and proofing. Position works collaboratively with the Marketing/PR team and cross-functional teams to create integrated marketing initiatives and campaigns in alignment with the organizational content/editorial calendar and current trends/opportunities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Create Original Content

  • Write, edit and share content (social media posts, blog posts, e-communications) and deploy marketing messages across multiple channels including social media platforms, website, email, and other marketing collateral
  • Capture photography and video footage of relevant events and locations across the Richmond Region for social media, blog and e-communications usage
  • Attend media previews, exhibit openings, community celebrations, and other events across the region on behalf of Visit Richmond VA to gather photo and video content for various applications

Manage Social Media Content

  • Produce content across all Visit Richmond VA social media channels (Instagram/Threads, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter/X, Pinterest, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, and other platforms as they emerge) including selecting imagery, writing captions and pre-scheduling content
  • Monitor and manage mentions and engagement including fielding direct messages, responding to comments and actively engaging with other users on each platform
  • Track reach, impressions and engagement for monthly department reporting, quarterly board reporting, and internal performance benchmarking
  • Research and provide insight on current social media trends and brainstorm suggestions on engaging content ideas 
  • Conduct social media giveaways with local partners to engage users, expand the reach of the Visit Richmond VA brand and foster community collaboration 
  • Produce content across all relevant social media platforms for the Richmond Region Beer Trail including imagery, captions and pre-scheduled posts
  • Support content development for all BLK RVA social media channels in collaboration with the Senior Content Marketing Manager
  • Attend quarterly BLK RVA content planning meetings to discuss content collaborations among the Visit BLK RVA and Visit Richmond VA brands
  • Research upcoming regional events and activities (festivals, expos, holidays, etc.) to add to the internal social media content calendar
  • Maintain a consistent, destination-appropriate “voice” in social content 
  • Assist clients and community partners as needed with event enhancement through social media support and social media collaborations
  • Collaborate with PR Manager to amplify and reshare media mentions and accolades across relevant social media channels

Manage RVA Blog

  • Research, outline and write original blog posts for the Visit Richmond VA and BLK RVA Blogs, and revise and republish existing blog content
  • Optimize blog tags and categories for each blog post according to best SEO practices
  • Make ongoing edits and corrections to blog content as needed
  • Brainstorm new blog content ideas in conjunction with quarterly themes, trends and advertising campaigns
  • Monitor engagement and reach for top performing blog content 

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent vocational/technical training (4 years formal education) in related field 
  • At least 1 year or more of social media marketing experience in either an internship position or work experience that includes demonstrated skill and success in content marketing, social media, communications, copywriting, photography, video concepting/production, and creative execution.
  • Expected to perform independently and exercise good judgment, while also working well in a team environment. Manage outside vendors as necessary. Manage budget with input from supervisor. Does not oversee other personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to:

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exempt management role and as such, requires possible overnight travel, after-hours work, monitoring email and online activity after hours and on weekends is possible. Heated and air-conditioned office environment but will also work outside on occasion. Noise level is usually low to moderate.
