Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Social Worker I at our Main location.

Sample Duties:

  • Assists individuals and families with accessing community services, completing applications, and educating and/or clarifying information for the public regarding social service organizations
  • Assists the public with housing and employment assistance programs, parenting and social service benefits, and medical, school, or personal issues
  • Disseminates information and data to stakeholders, as assigned
  • Maintains the flow of the Social Work Center, assisting customers with independent needs
  • Maintains proper, timely, and complete documentation of all interactions
  • Follows organizational, County, and public health and safety guidelines and protocols and performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in committee, staff, and professional group meetings and required training sessions; stays abreast of new trends and best practices
  • Learns and consistently exhibits Richland Library’s brand promises in all interactions with customers and colleagues; provides outstanding customer service to all internal and external customers; successfully ascertains and meets the individualized needs of each customer
  • May be required to work nights and weekends based on organizational needs and job requirements


Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in social services, public health or administration, or related area; supplemented by at least one (1) year of directly related experience, including case management; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree and one (1) year of directly related experience managing social service cases of a similar nature to the work to be performed in this role.

Location, Salary & Hours:

Where: Richland Library Main, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Salary: $1,612.50 bi-weekly plus excellent benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm with occasional evenings and/or weekends

Job Role & Level: P1; Pay Grade & Salary Band: 5; FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.
