Richland County Recreation Commission is Hiring a Bus Driver Near Columbia, SC

JOB DESCRIPTION

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for responsible transporting program participants. responsible transporting program participants.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a pre-trip inspection before operation of any RCRC vehicle used to transport patrons.
  • Perform a walkthrough of the vehicle before initial departure checking the for any potential safety issues, cleanliness of the vehicle, and ensure the rear door is unlocked, and warning buzzer is deactivated.
  • Adhere to all Federal, State, County laws, ordinances, regulations and Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC) Policies and Procedures, while operating any RCRC motor vehicle.
  • Ensure that a seatbelt secures every person on the vehicle while the vehicle is in operation.
  • Execute a walkthrough of the vehicle after transporting passengers to a destination visually verifying all patrons have exited the vehicle, and no people or items remain on the vehicle.
  • Fuel the vehicle before returning the vehicle if the gas tank is less than half a tank, and ensure the gas cap is in place and the fuel tank is locked.
  • Maintain the interior cleanliness of the vehicle sweeping and emptying any trash receptacles daily, and wiping the seats clean on a weekly or as needed basis.
  • Perform a final walkthrough of the vehicle checking for potential safety issues, cleanliness, and ensuring all vehicle doors are locked, and a post-trip inspection completed.
  • Return the vehicle to the RCRC designated parking area and return vehicle keys to the front desk or evening drop box.
  • May serve as a chaperon and assist with youth, adult, and senior trips.
  • Performs other duties as necessary. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least 6 months of of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Successfully complete the RCRC Driver Training course within one month of hire date.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
  • Knowledge of RCRC rules and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of the bus operations.
  • Knowledge of the roads and bus routes in the county.
  • Skill to collect data and maintain routine records.
  • Skill to perform first aid and CPR.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
  • Ability to be dependable.
  • Ability to recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly.
  • Ability to enforce established policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • C.P.R certified
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License to drive RCRC vehicles, and produce an acceptable 10 year driving record.
  • Will be required to undergo Department of Transportation (DOT) physical

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is involves sitting for long periods as required, may require walking for periodic intervals throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting up to 20 pounds, bend, and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work inside of RCRC approved Bus. Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable, such as music. Work near other people, but usually have a few feet of space separating them from others. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
