JOB DESCRIPTION
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. JOB SUMMARY
This position will be enforcing water safety regulations, and oversees swimmers at swimming facility, promoting patron health, enjoyment and safety.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Enforce all rules and regulations.
  • Administers any emergency first aid required within the limits of training; provide initial emergency care needed to sustain life until qualified medical personnel take over.
  • Clean and otherwise service the pool, pool deck, and changing areas to insure that health and safety standards are maintained at all times.
  • Report definite or potential hazards and unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
  • Collect daily pool fees.
  • Always maintains facility inspection readiness and cleanliness ; and keeps all staff, lifesaving, and first aid equipment in readiness to respond to emergency situations at all times.
  • Participate in in-service training sessions.
  • Performs other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Currently attending High School, or completion of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience working as a lifeguard, teaching swimming lessons, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must be at least 15 years of older.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of operating a large, multi-pool aquatic facility.
  • Knowledge of certification standards in area of specialty.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge of rescue efforts and emergency medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of life saving and water techniques.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR procedures.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the swimming pool facility.
  • Knowledge of pool equipment operation and health standard.
  • Knowledge of swimming and water safety instruction techniques.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Skill to swim with proficiency and endurance.
  • Skill to collect data and maintain routine records.
  • Skill to perform basic math, including measurement and weights pertaining to pool facility maintenance.
  • Skill to perform first aid and CPR.
  • Skill to perform lifeguarding observation and water rescue techniques.
  • Ability to recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly.
  • Ability to enforce established policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and employees.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Maintain certification in Lifeguard Training from American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, or other nationally recognized equivalent and American Red Cross or national recognized equivalent C.P.R and Standard First Aid.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is sedentary in nature with infrequent periods of strenuous physical activity. Typical position requires worker to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, and crouch, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects. Also requires diving skills and ability to hold breath. The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing. Worker may be required to demonstrate an athletic activity or physical exercise.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
